Texas governor Rick Perry is said to be very possibly preparing to announce his candidacy for the 2012 Republican nomination for president of the United States. Perry could well become the front runner if he enters the race. And he easily could beat Obama for many reasons, the first of which is that he still is a popular sitting governor – one of the longest-serving in American history – who is in his third term as the leader of a very large state. Every once in a while, an election cycle looms that looks particularly good for one party or the other. 2006 looked bright for the Democrats to re-take the House after 12 years out of the majority, and they did. 1980 was a year for Ronald Reagan and American conservatism to take the reins. And in 1994, the Republicans swept back into congressional power big-time, as they did in 2010. In 2012, the outlook for Barack Obama to hold the presidency is fair at best. Who would have imagined it six months ago – Sarah Palin seems to be making gestures toward joining the 2012 Republican presidential field. She started a bus tour in Washington on Memorial Day weekend. The tour goes to… New Hampshire. And the media will not miss a single opportunity to trash Palin at every turn.
