Real ways to help Get Out The Vote and “True the Vote.” And a glimmer of hope.

No matter whom the Republican presidential nominee turns out to be, we conservatives need to make sure he wins. How best to do that? How best to actually help get out the vote? And make sure fraudulent votes are not cast? To help our Republican candidates win in the 2012 election cycle, I believe we conservatives need to do three things. The first two involve volunteering to help a candidate’s campaign Get Out The Vote and the third involves volunteering (or finding volunteers) to “True the Vote” on Election Day. First, according to some accounts, approximately 4 million conservative Republicans refused to cast a vote in the presidential race in 2008 because our candidate was the “not conservative enough” John McCain. So, we’ve got … Read entire article »

OK Then…Where’s My Free Gun?

After watching my government denying Catholic institutions the ability to act in accordance with religious teachings, I was struck by the irony that is developing.   Rights are discovered in language apparently hidden in the text of the Constitution and which can only be discovered by intellectual elites in robes, you know, like The DaVinci Code.  Meanwhile, rights expressed in plain English in the Constitution are considered null by government fiat. For instance, although few would relish taking on the argument that the poor have no right to a free attorney, there is no language to that effect in the Constitution. The word Miranda is not in the Constitution either. Nor is its thesis, upon which a generation of law enforcement officers have operated under its limitations.  Neither is the word privacy, … Read entire article »

How to Solve Obama’s Catholic Problem

President Obama is trying to walk back from the war he started with Catholics by trying to cram down their throats his dictates that go against their core beliefs. His administration says they are open to work something out. I am glad to hear that. The fix is simple.   The potential fix will not only end the war on Catholics, it will go a long way towards resolving the out of control escalation in healthcare costs. Here it is: Repeal ObamaCare Eliminate the tax deduction for companies to provide health care for their employees Provide a tax deduction for individuals to buy and own their own policies. This would make policies portable, that is, you won’t lose your health care if you lose your job. You can choose any plan that works for you … Read entire article »

Romney’s Southern Problem: The "M" Word

- It’s Not What You Might Think - For all of the pundits who are putting a spit-polish shine on Mitt Romney’s coronation-ready, GOP crown; slow down. The fat lady is still in the wings running through her scales. I’m actually seeing predictions that Romney will win Iowa, win New Hampshire, and then win South Carolina. I would rate those projections as obviously possible, almost certain and simply not going to happen. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney Image via Wikipedia I can see Romney winning Iowa or at least finishing second in Iowa. He should win his neighboring state of New Hampshire; anything else would be a major upset. As for South Carolina – listen to me, well-meaning Yankee pundits – it’s not going to happen. It’s the “M” word. What? “Mormon”? No, get real; you … Read entire article »

Why 2012 Is Even More Important Than You Think 3

- Taking Failure, Incompetence and Class Envy World-Wide - If you have been focused on economic conditions, I can’t really blame you. It’s like driving past an endless chain-reaction car wreck. You can’t help but stare. The carnage has been sickly fascinating as we watch the destruction of businesses and industries and the tightening of government-applied vices to the dwindling American middle class. Image via Wikipedia In the meantime, not only have other economies suffered, there is a leadership vacuum across the globe. Do you remember when the President of the United States was automatically considered the Leader of the Free World? I cannot imagine any person with a modicum of political knowledge and a good dose of common sense describing Barack Obama as the Leader of the Free World. Let’s face it, … Read entire article »

Why 2012 Is Even More Important Than You Think 2

- Neither a Healthy Populace, Nor a Healthy Economy - While we can’t help but recognize that the United States is struggling financially in both public and private sectors, it’s time to point out that Europe is struggling even more. The fact that a European-style economy appears to be President Barack Obama’s model for the fundamentally changed United States is seldom mentioned. Like the act of socializing medicine in Europe, the goal was not about medicine; it was about socialism. In the United States, Obamacare is not the end; it is a means to an end. The purpose of Obamacare is to squeeze out private insurers and then private medical providers. In the end, the quality of medical care must decrease as surely as the costs must increase when efficient competition ends … Read entire article »

Killing the Economy with Regulations

Photo by Mike Licht, nationscapital.com Often overlooked in the class warfare that President Obama is unleashing on America so that he can continue spending, is how business is being strangled by regulations. Every time the government fails to protect our rights and freedoms because it is too busy trying to micromanage our lives, and as a result some calamity descends upon us, the answer is always more regulations. Nowadays, that will typically mean thousands of pages of new laws that turn into tens of thousands of pages of new regulations and those who never met a payroll wonder why we are stuck at 9% unemployment.   Why does this happen? I believe there are two reasons. The first is the expansive view of the Constitution that many progressives hold. There is very little … Read entire article »

The Buffett Rule Lie

When  does the decent interval end? When does the clock run out on giving the president the benefit of the doubt and when is it time to call it as you see it, no holds barred? President Obama is losing on all fronts. If he wants to survive he needs to do what Democrats do best, find a slogan that can be repeated mindlessly by as many adherents as possible and whip up the crowds to turn out and vote for him. If in doing so it means telling massive lies to the American people, so be it. As Saul Alinsky put it in Rules for Radicals Means and ends are so qualitatively interrelated that the true question has never been the proverbial one, “Does the End justify the Means?” but always … Read entire article »

Does America Need Leaders with Private Sector Experience or More Professional Politicians?

President Obama laid out his jobs plan and its more of the same. Tax more. Spend more. Calling more taxes, savings and more spending, investment. Is this president incapable of learning from his mistakes or is he going “all in” for a class warfare strategy to get reelected? But it is not just the president. Democrats in Congress are circling the wagons and backing the president to the hilt, but they are starting to get nervous. They are worried if President Obama’s ratings keep falling, they may be dragged down with him. In the First Congressional District of New York there will be a rematch between professional politician and Democrat Tim Bishop vs. entrepreneur Randy Altschuler. Bishop was in academia before getting elected to Congress in 2002, and that represents the sum … Read entire article »

Progressives and “Investing”

Progressives are a funny group when it comes to investing, and I mean real investing, not the phony code word for spending. If they’re the ones controlling the money and especially if the money is not theirs, then investing is fine. If it will compete with one of their sacred social programs and you will directly benefit from it, then bar the door it’s an out of control casino. The Big Ponzi Scheme Yes, I said it. Social Security is a Ponzi scheme. I wrote about it that way in my book Liberty’s Lifeline, and I was happy to welcome some straight talking from Rick Perry on the same subject. If not run by the government, anyone who ran something like Social Security privately would be in jail, just like Bernie Madoff. … Read entire article »
