I’m back with a passion
Ladies & Gentlemen, I’m back after a short spell in cyberHELL. Over the next week, expect a flurry of articles that I’ve kept bottled up the last 2 weeks. Thanks to the help of my friends & allies at True North (special thanks are owed to Derek Brigham, Nancy Laroche, Mitch Berg & the Lady Logician) & thanks to Examiner.com, I haven’t been totally silent. Special thanks go to Rex Newman, too. Last night, Rex called to check where things were with LFR. I’ll always appreciate Rex’s call of encouragement. It’s good to be back home. With my friends. With my trusted allies. An explanation is due. The Lady Logician captured what happened perfectly in this post: There is an old adage that states, you know you are over the target when you start … Read entire article »

Vin the Lobbyist cautions patriotic TEA Party activists
?The last thing TEA Party activists need is for a DC-based lobbyist to lecture them on being extremists. Still, that’s precisely what Vin Weber did: The other Minnesotan deeply tied to the the Congressional Leadership Fund is former U.S. Rep. Vin Weber, who sits on the super PAC’s board. Both Weber and Coleman are backing Mitt Romney for president and both also work as lobbyists. At a time when the tea party has energized the conservative base of the party, Weber cautions that Republicans need to avoid ideological extremes. “It’s important to also maintain some breadth to the Republican message because there are places in the country where a very conservative Republican simply can’t compete and a truly national party has to be able to be at least somewhat competitive everywhere,” Weber said. It’s … Read entire article »

TPaw endorses Romney
Tim Pawlenty stunned the political world this morning by endorsing Mitt Romney for president: Ex-presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty on Monday endorsed Mitt Romney for the GOP presidential nomination, saying the former Massachusetts governor and businessman has what it takes to turn the country around. Pawlenty, speaking on Fox News, cited Romney’s “depth and scope” of experience in the private sector. “I think he’s going to be a transformational and great president for this country,” he told Fox News. This is as bad of an unforced error as TPaw’s ever made. TPaw had proven his conservative credentials with the economic policies he laid out in a speech earlier this year. It was an impressive plan by all serious economists’ accounts. In endorsing Mitt, he threw that impressive economic plan out the window. Saying that Mitt will … Read entire article »

Debbie Downer Does Desperate Dodges
This morning, Debbie Downer, aka Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, was asked for her reaction to Jimmy Hoffa’s ‘take those S.O.B.’s out’ statement. Falling in line with the White House’s refusal to condemn Hoffa’s vitriolic statement, Debbie Downer dodged the question. When asked for her reaction to Hoffa’s statement, she said “My reaction is that we should be working together to get America working again.” When pressed repeatedly by Gretchen Carlson on the issue, Debbie Downer repeatedly dodged the question by repeating her mantra of ‘can’t we all get along’? It was one of the most pathetic interviews I’ve ever seen. Debbie Downer definitely didn’t want to answer Gretchen Carlson’s question because there wasn’t a good answer for her to give. If she lit Hoffa up the morning after he tried rallying the faithful, that … Read entire article »

Ron Paul’s 9/11 Theory vs. Verifiable Proof
Let me preface this post by saying that I’d be ok with Ron Paul being president if the president wasn’t also commander-in-chief. I agree with Ron Paul’s agenda of limited government that lives within the constraints of the U.S. Constitution. He wouldn’t be my first choice but I’d be ok with him. The thing that eliminates him from being a top tier presidential candidate is his perspective on who caused 9/11. This is typical Ron Paul thinking: At a campaign stop on Saturday in Winterset, one man asked Paul how terrorist groups would react if the U.S. removed its military presence in Middle Eastern nations, a move the candidate advocates. “Which enemy are you worried that will attack our national security?” Paul asked. “If you’re looking for specifics, I’m talking about Islam. Radical Islam,” the … Read entire article »

Return of the Stupid Party; Healing the Wounds
It’s evident that Republicans are reverting to their Stupid Party habits. It isn’t enough that the TEA Party’s darlings have changed the debate on the debt ceiling. It isn’t enough, in their minds, that the debt ceiling increases that’ve passed during Speaker Boehner’s watch are the first debt ceiling increases that’ve had spending cuts tied to them. Apparently, some TEA Party organizations are slamming people like Col. Alan West for being RINOs. That’s led to Col. West defending himself on Laura Ingraham’s show this morning. Bully for him and bully for Ms. Laura for her steadfast support for Col. West. Here’s the tape of their conversation: This leads to a more important point that needs to happen sooner rather than later. First, some of the TEA Party organizations’ leaders are letting their … Read entire article »

Is the Debt Ceiling Debate Turning?
President Obama’s childish rant Friday, followed by Speaker Boehner’s speech laying out the differences between congressional Republicans and President Obama is a potential turning point in the debt ceiling debate. I say potential because Republican message disipline isn’t guaranteed. The nation favors the Republicans’ policies, especially concerning spending. The 2010 election was a vote against DC’s outrageous spending. If Republicans don’t lose sight of that as their guiding principle and if they speak with one voice, they’ll win this fight and set themselves up for another big victory in 2012. Here’s what I said in that earlier column: If Minnesota teaches Republicans anything, it’s that Republicans win the PR battle if they have one, coherent message. If DC teaches us anything, it’s that having the incoherent Gang of Six plan and the indefensible … Read entire article »

DFL Legislative Leaders Omitted From Negotiations
I’d heard this weekend that DFL legislative leaders were being excluded from budget talks. I now have confirmation of that thanks to this Strib article: Democratic legislators said GOP leaders have frozen them out of budget talks, so they have no plans to put up any votes for the final budget deal. That means Republicans, who hold small majorities in both bodies, must come through with nearly all of their votes to pass a budget. I’m not the least bit surprised at freezing Sen. Bakk and Rep. Thissen out of the negotiations. They’re the people who’ve sabotaged the process each time it looked like Gov. Dayton was getting close to finishing a deal. Of course, GOP legislators are going to lock them out. They’ve been troublemakers from before the shutdown, starting with the … Read entire article »

Stupidity, Media Bias On Display In Editorial
I know that, for the most part, the media is in the tank for the DFL. I don’t need to look further than the potted plant performance put on by Esme Murphy Sunday. As in-the-tank as Esme Murphy was, this Fergus Falls Daily Journal editorial is its equal. Here’s a sampling of the FFDJ’s bias: The Republican majority in the Minnesota Legislature can blame Gov. Mark Dayton all they want, and talk about how a tax on the richest Minnesotans will kill jobs. But the bottom line is, it appears that if the state shutdown, which began Friday, will end, the Republicans are going to have to allow the tax increase. If I didn’t know who wrote this, I would’ve bet it was Rep. Ryan Winkler: Rep. Ryan Winkler (DFL-Golden Valley) has said he … Read entire article »
