It’s not the original story, it’s the spin
In the aftermath of Nixon’s resignation, the popular cliche was that it wasn’t the break-in that got Nixon. It was the cover-up. These days, that can be adapted to a different scandal. In the case of factchecker Politifact, it isn’t the initial story that nailed them. It was the spin that nailed them. Here’s the first details: On April 5, Politifact conceded that the 92.3 percent figure cited by the Romney campaign was accurate and, then, promptly, and unbelievably, said that the claims made by the Romney campaign were “mostly false.” Here’s how Team Romney rocked Politifact: Politifact’s report left many scratching their heads, and one such person was Lanhee Chen, Romney’s Policy Director, who fired off an e-mail that eviscerated Politifact’s analysis point by point. “Putting aside the obvious problems with rating … Read entire article »

Dayton mocks Minnesotans by ‘vetoing’ constitutional amendment
Proving yet again that he’s out of step with Minnesotans on an important issue, Gov. Dayton staged a mock veto of the Photo ID constitutional amendment that the Minnesota legislature just passed: In a symbolic gesture, Gov. Mark Dayton on Monday, April 9, vetoed the photo ID bill that the Republican-contolled Legislature sent to him last week. But the issue will be on the Nov. 6 statewide ballot anyway. “Although I do not have the power to prevent this unwise and unnecessary constitutional amendment from appearing on the Minnesota ballot in November, the Legislature has sent it to me in the form of a bill,” the DFL governor wrote in a letter to lawmakers. “Thus I am exercising my legal responsibility to either sign or veto the amendment.” Gov. Dayton, like the vast majority … Read entire article »

Felons always tell the truth, don’t they?
In early February, I wrote that Minnesota’s election system wasn’t the gold standard the DFL insists it is. At the time, I transcribed some conversations James O’Keefe’s investigators had with Scott County government employees in this article. This exchange is particularly disturbing: INVESTIGATOR: In theory, I could just, you know, say I have some illness or disability and just be at home and there’s no way that the state would know otherwise. WORKER: You are signing a statement, a form, that the information you’re providing is true and correct. This morning, I read an article about voter fraud that shows why it isn’t good enough to say that voter registration forms must contain accurate information: Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael N. Herring said the charges stem from a statewide investigation by the Virginia State Police into … Read entire article »

LightSquared’s waiver vanishes into thin air
The Obama administration’s attempt to railroad LightSquared’s ill-conceived product just vanished into thin air: The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, a Department of Commerce agency tasked with overseeing military and government spectrum use, determined that LightSquared’s interference with other devices, including GPS devices, was unavoidable. “Based on NTIA’s independent evaluation of the testing and analysis performed over the last several months, we conclude that LightSquared’s proposed mobile broadband network will impact GPS services and that there is no practical way to mitigate the potential interference at this time,” the NTIA said in a letter (PDF) to the Federal Communications Commission. Based on those findings, the FCC said it would “suspend indefinitely” the startup’s conditional waiver to operate. “The commission clearly stated from the outset that harmful interference to GPS would not be permitted,” … Read entire article »

President Obama ignores Constitution, sets up Constitutional Crisis
President Obama’s reckless disregard for the U.S. Constitution is indicative of his spoiled brat attitude: SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — A defiant President Barack Obama, tired of Senate Republicans stalling his nominee to lead a new consumer protection agency, put him in charge Wednesday over their opposition. “I refuse to take `no’ for an answer,” the president said. Outraged GOP leaders in Congress immediately suggested that courts would determine whether Richard Cordray’s appointment was illegal. With a director in place, Obama said the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can start overseeing the mortgage companies, payday lenders, debt collectors and other financial operations often blamed for practices that helped undermine the economy. Obama announced the move with Cordray by his side before a cheering crowd in Ohio, a politically vital state where Cordray once was attorney general. “Every … Read entire article »

The Path Forward
There’s been alot of upheaval and discord within the Minnesota GOP within the last month. Surely, lefty websites are writing the obituaries of the state GOP as we speak. Just as surely, there’s alot of in-party complaining, too. If a snapshot were taken right now, people would undoubtedly predict that the Republican Party of Minnesota was heading for a steep cliff. That’s a fair assessment. While it’s a fair assessment, it isn’t a fait accompli. The chief reason it isn’t a fait accompli that Republicans will careen off that proverbial cliff is because Republicans are the reform party, the taxpayers’ watchdog party, the ideas party. The DFL is still the monied party, the I’ll-fight-for-the-failed-status-quo party, the party of special interests. That’s just reality. A party led by the Dayton family’s cronies is a … Read entire article »

The Truth Shall Set You Free!
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV) In our present day society, the politically correct keepers of proper thought are on constant guard lest the truth get out and expose the lies of the ruling class. We saw the impact of this at the last Republican debate where so many participants, even good conservatives, were scandalized that Newt Gingrich had the audacity to tell the world that the Palestinians were an “invented” people group. It was a people group invented to lay claim to land possessed by a legitimate people group, the Israelis. Many said, in essence, this is right, but we shouldn’t talk about it because it will make the people perpetuating the lie, and their fellow travelers, angry. Apparently some would … Read entire article »

Progressives’ multi-pronged election strategy
The more you put the pieces of the puzzle together, the more clear it becomes that the DFL, DTL-Minnesota and Alida Messinger have a plan to influence elections before a single candidate has been chosen. This isn’t random. It’s part of a plan, a very well thought-out plan. The first step in the plan was the now-antiquated Secretary of State Project: Moreover, in 2006 SoSP accused Blackwell and Republicans of conspiring to suppress Democratic voter turnout in Ohio. “We were tired of Republican manipulation of elections,” said Michael Kieschnick. “It seemed like lots of decisions were made by people who were pretty clearly political operatives.” “Any serious commitment to wrestling control of the country from the Republican Party must include removing their political operatives from deciding who can vote and whose votes … Read entire article »

BREAKING NEWS: SRR School Board violates Minnesota’s Open Meeting laws
Earlier today, I got a report from John and AJ Kern, K-12 activists in the greater St. Cloud area. This evening, John sent this email outlining what happened at the Sauk Rapids-Rice School Board meeting Tuesday night: There was a quorum of the board present. Business of the district was transacted (i.e. disseminaton of information about the proposed levy). It is my understanding that, because this was a meeting of the board, the open meeting laws require the district to conduct the meeting in such a way as to “prohibit actions being taken at a secret meeting where it is impossible for the interested public to become fully informed concerning board decisions or to detect improper influences”. In this instance, where the superintendent and the district stand to benefit from passage of … Read entire article »
