Mismatch: Michele Bachmann vs. Jim Graves?

This morning, Michele Bachmann and Jim Graves, her DFL opponent, appeared on Esme Murphy’s program. The first part of Michele’s interview focused on high gas prices, which Michele handled well. Here’s a partial transcript of that part of the interview: ESME: Critics have said that even if we expanded production, it would not have an immediate impact at the pump. Realistically, what would it take to get gas prices down to $2 a gallon and when would that happen? MICHELE: Well, remember that the day Barack Obama became president, gas was $1.84 a gallon so gas prices have gone up 110% since he was in office. And in the last 30 days, gas prices have gone up 30 cents a gallon…So what we can do are a few simple things. We can … Read entire article »

It’s not the original story, it’s the spin

In the aftermath of Nixon’s resignation, the popular cliche was that it wasn’t the break-in that got Nixon. It was the cover-up. These days, that can be adapted to a different scandal. In the case of factchecker Politifact, it isn’t the initial story that nailed them. It was the spin that nailed them. Here’s the first details: On April 5, Politifact conceded that the 92.3 percent figure cited by the Romney campaign was accurate and, then, promptly, and unbelievably, said that the claims made by the Romney campaign were “mostly false.” Here’s how Team Romney rocked Politifact: Politifact’s report left many scratching their heads, and one such person was Lanhee Chen, Romney’s Policy Director, who fired off an e-mail that eviscerated Politifact’s analysis point by point. “Putting aside the obvious problems with rating … Read entire article »

Killing businesses the old-fashioned way?

In this video, Bernie Marcus explains why this administration’s regulatory policies are killing job creation and wealth development: // // ]]> The sad thing is that Bernie Marcus, Arthur Blank and their partners wouldn’t have created the jobs they did if today’s regulatory environment had been in place in 1978: This administration’s love of stifling financial regulations would’ve stopped Home Depot before it started. Whether you’re talking Dodd-Frank, which Marcus calls the Bonnie and Clyde Act, or whether the subject is Obamacare, the EPA’s industry-killing regulations or the NLRB’s dictatorial act, the reality is that this administration loves killing opportunity, jobs and prosperity through regulations. This says everything about today’s regulatory burden: MARCUS: We talk about job creation. We’ve got more job-killer rules than there is ever before. It’s never happened like this before and … Read entire article »

A “99%er” gets schooled on the joys of large corporations after her car gets smashed

Got a call from Highway Patrol for a “Motorcycle Down,” a major injury accident. Jumped in my truck and headed to where it was supposed to be, and of course it was actually in the other direction from where they told us it was, so I did some fancy maneuvering and entered the freeway going the other direction. On arriving to the scene, there was a Harley-Davidson with its front end mangled sitting behind a Mini Cooper with all the fashionable leftist bumper stickers on the back. I was only called to pick the bike up, so I loaded it and off I went to the tow yard to put it in a safe place. A half hour later, an insurance company called us to tow a Mini Cooper that was in an accident, but … Read entire article »

The Regulated Society

Over the past years, even under more benevolent administrations, we have seen increases in regulations tampering with ever growing areas of our lives. We have just recently felt the heat and aggravation as they have been coming at an ever increasing rate in recent years. We have more to blame for this than a renegade president and his henchmen. We have found ourselves in a situation where there is a lawyer behind every business conversation, from employment interview to water cooler. Our food is relentlessly controlled, tested and “approved”. Our cars are in the process of becoming miniscule, underperforming death traps – and that is just the tip of the iceberg. What brought us to this enslaved condition? Why are we permitting this continue? The fact is, at this point we have … Read entire article »

Crank Up the Printing Presses . . . U.S. to Blow Through Debt Ceiling BEFORE Election

Just last August, Obama blustered and bluffed his way to adding another 2.1 trillion to the national debt ceiling. This was supposed to take the issue off the table until after the November election. Republicans went along, “saving their energy” to fight for something else some day in some lifetime. Guess what? It now looks like the spendthrifts will blow the whole additional 2.1 trillion before the election. Despite promises, Obama just can’t seem to do a thing to slow spending. Earlier today, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner admitted that the debt limit would be reached this year. But he sounded confident it would be later than October 15th. “We do not expect to hit the debt limit until quite late in the year, significantly after the end of the fiscal … Read entire article »

Herding Cats Football Edition

This primary season for the GOP has been crazy and all over the board.   It is really something I have never seen before.   I know that most primaries are contentious.  But this one has had some vitriol that seems to be usually meant for the other side. As has been said before, getting conservative all on the same page is like herding cats.   Everyone has their own mind and will defend it all cost.   But at some point, we usually agree to disagree.   But this year is different   Why? Well I think it is because so much is at stake.  We cannot let Obama win and have another 4 years of anemic economic policies that do more harm that good.  And we need to stop the spending before … Read entire article »

ABC GOP Debate Reveals ABC’s Positions

By my unofficial and admittedly incomplete count, there were nearly as many tweets sent about the questions and commentators during the ABC New Hampshire GOP Debate as there were about the candidates’ answers. One candidly blunt tweet was, “Does Diane Sawyer know these debates are not about her?” Diane Sawyer, expression enigmatic Image via Wikipedia Not completely unexpectedly, ABC News spent the vast majority of the debate asking questions about the hard-core left’s favorite topics and encouraging dissension and attacks among the Republican candidates. Diane Sawyer, George Stephanopoulos and Josh McElveen spent more time on gay marriage and gay adoption than on energy policy or jobs. The answers were relatively unimportant because ABC News was determined to be in the spotlight at the expense of extracting relevant information and informing voters. If ABC News … Read entire article »

What’s in a word (conservative)?

Many is the time that Sean Hannity has reminded viewers and listeners alike that he isn’t a registered Republican. Hannity’s reminded them that he’s a registered conservative in New York. Wednesday night, Hannity interviewed Sarah Palin. Though he didn’t say it in this interview, Hannity has repeatedly said that Mitt’s a conservative. Shame on him for pulling his punches with Mitt. It’s intellectually reprehensible for him to criticize the mediaa for not digging into President Obama’s past, then do a half-assed job of scrutinizing Mitt. If the gutless media, Hannity included, did their jobs, charlatans like Mitt Romney wouldn’t gain traction in a GOP presidential campaign. At minimum, they wouldn’t be allowed to call themselves conservatives. They could mouth the words but they’d be ridiculed mercilessly. Thankfully, Paul Hoffmeister wrote this article to … Read entire article »
