“You Break It, You Own It,” The Fine Art of Blinksmanship

For once in my life I agree with “Blinky” Dick Durban, Democrat spokesman for the Gang of Six, when he said today, “You break it, you own it.” What Durbin failed to say was who gets to decide who that someone is that ends up owning it. It’s been our (conservatives’) call all along, since early 2010, and certainly not one any Democrat will echo this… …Take it the People… …so the people can decide this one thing. Then we can see once and for all just which vision of America the People prefer. Boehner and his new majority made a solemn pledge to the American people not to raise taxes (or allow it). The People responded in November, 2010. Obama made a solemn pledge to the American people to fundamentally change America. The People responded … Read entire article »

Only the President of the United States, by purposeful Act, can put America into Default

“Default” Redefined It’s been confusing, disingenuous, and most often used as an out-and-out lie, not just by Mr Obama, the Democrats, and the media, but even the lamentable Wendel Goler of Fox. But as Pilgrim pointed out here several days ago, only a fraction of the government’s revenues each month must go to paying our creditors, principally bond-holders such as China and Saudi Arabia. If we don’t make those payments then, and only then do we go into default, and not even Obama could reduce American revenues by that much. (Although he is trying.) Every use of the term “default” other than in that context is a fabrication and lie. This especially refers to Mr Obama’s use of “default.” It is either based on misinformation, actual incompetence, or a lie. What Obama refers to as … Read entire article »

The Mob Next Time

“God’ll said a fire, not a flood next time… (from “Well. Well, Well”, Negro spiritual) I’m not Ann Coulter’s biggest fan. We are separated by 20 years of a kind of snark that doesn’t come easy to me. But she does lay liberalism low at times, and sometimes she can be very serious and sober. In Demonic, How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America, she lays out a notion that is important for us all to understand, for the idea of mob psychology transcends liberalism. And it’s not liberals I want to discuss here. It’s us. You see, Ms Coulter uses as a launching point for her study the French Revolution and Terror, 1793-94.  That’s just seven years after we embraced the U S Constitution, and just twelve years after the French monarchy (about to … Read entire article »

Who in the Media Will be Obama’s Gene Garber?

They’re casting lots, you know. A month ago I’d have said this couldn’t happen, but now, all because of that snide little saunter out before the cameras a couple of weeks ago, when, as Rush Limbaugh commented, everyone in the room suddenly knew it was all a gag, Obama is suddenly very naked. Lady Penguin has it exactly right. Everyone in the room now knows Obama is undressed… …except Obama, apparently. So now we’re all waiting to see who will be first to raise the mirror. You see, the cynical phoney (see Clinton)  picks up on these clues early, and races to regain some sense of equilibrium. Even the sociopath (and that may be Clinton as well) is in tune with his watchers and potential critics. But not the narcissist. I’m trying to think of a film, … Read entire article »

We Can Do a Year Standing On Our Heads, Mr Boehner

Can you hear us now? Three or four times in my life I confronted situations where I knew I might end up in trouble. Each time, my first thought was “felony or misdemeanor?” and my next thought was “Hell, I can do a year standing on my head.” What does this have to do with the face-off between the GOP House and Obama? (Yes, it’s between them and really, and only them.) In any face-off, say a push-and-shove between kids daring each other to spit, or a barroom chest-bumper, all the way up to a real gunfight, OK Corral style… …you want to know what   advantages you have, and what advantages the other fella has. You want to know your chances. Let’s consider this face-off between Obama and the House Republicans. The House GOP, er, Mr Boehner, … Read entire article »

Would Casey Anthony have been Acquitted in Kansas?

Why is it we always get these kinds of verdicts in places that don’t belong to Low-Sloping Foreheads? But I’m getting ahead of myself. Juries happen. We’ve seen this before, never considering, is this a trend? In the past we had the Menendez brothers acquitted for brutally murdering their parents because, as one juror put it, “they were unfortunate orphans.” We didn’t really blame the water in California then. It was  just an aberration. Juries happen. Then probably the most indecent miscarriage of justice (in my lifetime, at least) came with the OJ case. But we were still more inclined to blame the verdict on the over-exposure of the media (do you have any idea how many idiotic media careers got started with that case…or the idea that somehow lawyers could actually make good television … Read entire article »

Using the “Holder-Hold” to Stifle the Dream Act Bypass

…and other unconstitutional circumventions. This is an idea I stole from Saul Alinsky and Eric Holder. Illegal Orders Every Army private has been schooled on his duty to refuse to obey an illegal order. It has a long tradition, but few know how it works. This duty goes beyond recent whistleblower protection laws, which are aimed at bureaucratic corruption (usually financial). This duty is only to say “No, Sir,” but not necessarily to snitch. It offers no rewards. And there’s no protection from prosecution. Rather this duty is based on a glaring truth almost every private understands, and that is: he is the one most likely to carry out any illegal order, and will be the first one the finger of blame will be pointed at. So, to refuse to obey an illegal order imposes an … Read entire article »

The Hanging of Jake Spoon, a Notice of sorts to Dems in Congress

I’ve written before about the symbolism of the hanging scene in Larry McMurtry’s “Lonesome Dove”, which first appeared on TV  in 1989. It dawned on me, while writing a piece last week addressed to the new Republican members about crimes in the Congress, that many members on the Democrat side may never have seen this film, or read the book, and maybe never even have heard of it. It was over 20 years ago. Let me set this up. Jake Spoon was one of the founding fathers of the Texas Rangers, having ridden with Captains Gus McCrea and Woodrow Call since before the Civil War. A good lawman and cowboy, personable as all get-out, Jake was, well, a cad, always looking for the easy fix, shirking hard work, and peering up every … Read entire article »
