Inflation Figures… More Washington Lies

Core inflation, they tell us, is not a problem. These are the same people who tell us our economy is on the rebound and the worst is over. Mark Twain is reported to have said, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” However the the worst lies of all are Washington statistics, with an agenda behind each numeric rounding and each slice of the statistical pie. Being an old computer geek who has worked with raw data for years, I’ve seen it sliced, diced, squeezed and twisted to prove just about any point the powers that be wish to make. The core inflation proponents claim that we have no real inflation can be seen as bogus during any visit to the gas station, grocery or department store. … Read entire article »

He Who Forgets History…

A young man from Palm Beach, Florida shows there is hope for today’s youth. He studied his Jewish heritage, traveled to the concentration camps of Poland and was determined to do his part to be sure the tragedy of Nazi Germany is not forgotten. While recognizing the huge numbers who died in the holocaust, Michael Marcus puts a personal face on what happened to six million individuals who were born into families, with mothers and fathers who loved them, and raised them the best they could… then were brutally tortured and killed. In the early and middle thirties, storm clouds of prejudice on the German horizon along with an increasingly powerful and dictatorial government. The German people were a cultured people. They had art, music and advanced education. They were civilized. … Read entire article »

The Truth Shall Set You Free!

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV) In our present day society, the politically correct keepers of proper thought are on constant guard lest the truth get out and expose the lies of the ruling class. We saw the impact of this at the last Republican debate where so many participants, even good conservatives, were scandalized that Newt Gingrich had the audacity to tell the world that the Palestinians were an “invented” people group. It was a people group invented to lay claim to land possessed by a legitimate people group, the Israelis. Many said, in essence, this is right, but we shouldn’t talk about it because it will make the people perpetuating the lie, and their fellow travelers, angry. Apparently some would … Read entire article »

Obama’s “Jobs Bill” Attacks Charitable Deductions in Favor of Bigger Government

from Liberty Counsel Washington, DC – President Obama’s proposed “American Jobs Act” will repeal charitable tax deductions for certain taxpayers. Eliminating tax deductions would allegedly raise approximately $400 billion to support Obama’s government stimulus bill and would, in turn, significantly decrease the amount of charitable donations, while increasing government glut. Charities play a significant role in the every-day functioning and survival of Americans nationwide, and Obama is essentially seeking to replace those charities with more government. Obama’s “jobs bill” would mean that taxpayers with adjusted gross incomes over $250,000 for married couples filing jointly (or $200,000 for single taxpayers) may deduct only 28 percent of the value of the charitable contribution. The limitation would affect itemized deductions and certain other tax expenditures that would otherwise reduce taxable income in the 36 or … Read entire article »

The Crisis By Thomas Paine – Part II

I once felt all that kind of anger, which a man ought to feel, against the mean principles that are held by the Tories: a noted one, who kept a tavern at Amboy, was standing at his door, with as pretty a child in his hand, about eight or nine years old, as I ever saw, and after speaking his mind as freely as he thought was prudent, finished with this unfatherly expression, “Well! give me peace in my day.” Not a man lives on the continent but fully believes that a separation must some time or other finally take place, and a generous parent should have said, “If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace;” and this single reflection, well … Read entire article »

Labor Day: An Anachronistic Holiday?

Once again America is in the throes of the end of summer orgy of cookouts and sunburn. It is the last four day weekend of the season. Kids are going back to school and their parents are intending to “get serious” about getting back to work, that is, if they have work to get back to. The US Department of Labor web site tells us Labor Day “is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers.” The holiday came about when the United States was an industrialized nation and the people worked at actually making something. They thought of themselves as factory workers, farmers and the like. Today, so many think of themselves only as consumers. Work is the means to … Read entire article »

U.S. State Department Promoting an Anti-Israel Propaganda Agenda

www.LC.org Washington, DC – The U.S. State Department is promoting an anti-Israel propaganda campaign. The extent of the campaign and the misinformation raises serious concern. The most recent misinformation surfaced last week when the U.S. issued a “warning” to all U.S. citizens the day of Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Courage” event on August 24 in Jerusalem. On the same day, the Consulate General of the United States released an “Emergency Message” stating that “Jerusalem is under a heightened Security Alert.” U.S. citizens in Jerusalem were told to “exercise extra vigilance and avoid large crowds during upcoming rallies and religious holidays, particularly in and around Jerusalem’s Old City.” The “warning” continued: “On Wednesday, August 24, 2011, there will be a rally held near the south east [sic] corner of the Old City.” The areas … Read entire article »

Christianity vs. Socialism

by Thomas Brewton Liberal-progressives frequently assert that socialism is more in accord with original Christianity than Christianity itself. Jay Richards, writing in the Washington Post, debunks that thesis. See also Social Activism and the Social Gospel and Religious Left and Same Old Social Gospel. Even before the 1917 Russian Revolution, leading universities in the United States had begun a transition from the Christian roots of our nation into atheistic, secular materialism in their teaching of the so-called social sciences. Nominally-Christian theological seminaries were in the vanguard of the movement toward socialism. Rochester Theological Seminary’s professor Walter Rauschenbusch, one of the best known socialist spokesmen of his era, was a founder of the Social Gospel movement late in the 19th century. Social Gospel was nothing more nor less than socialism masquerading as Christianity. Social Gospel embraced the avowed … Read entire article »

Why Did We Break From Britain?

If most people are asked why our founding fathers broke away from Great Britain, the usual answer is “taxation without representation.” While this was certainly one of the reasons listed in the Declaration of Independence, it was far from being he singular driving force that led these brave men to pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. It would be helpful to review some of the list of grievances that led them to take this drastic action and risk everything they had, including the families and their own lives. He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and … Read entire article »

Liberal-Progressive Anti-Spirituality

By Thomas Brewton The inescapable essence of liberal-progressivism is philosophical materialism: the belief that spiritual religion is ignorance and that, as Karl Marx proclaimed, people’s nature is determined (and can be re-shaped) by the physical conditions in which they live and work and by the impact of the political state’s laws and regulations. A reader posted the following comment regarding The Irresponsible Nanny State. I missed the part in Heather MacDonald’s critique of Mayor Boomberg’s effort to encourage young men where she said that the program was “Godless.” While she was caustic, sarcastic and defeatist about making any effort to change the ethos of the inner city situation, I did not see her level the charge that religion was not part of the proposed program. Help us out here, Tom, and tell us how making … Read entire article »
