GOP-controlled Washington needs to put up or shut up!

Donald Trump surprised the world by exceeding the expectations of the experts and winning the race to become America’s 45th president. Surprisingly, he wasn’t the only one. The GOP kept its majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives. There’s no excuse for not getting things done now!

Forget Trump or Hillary and vote down-ballot!

From the early days of the current election cycle, we’ve known that there was a very high probability that Trump would lose the election to Hillary Clinton, as current polling and early voting now indicate. Unfortunately, another high probability under…

GOP establishment plan to hijack convention gaining steam

A few weeks ago I wrote about Mitt Romney’s sudden involvement in the Republican presidential primaries, and how I saw this as an effort to clear the way for him to become the nominee through a brokered or contested convention.…

Paul Ryan in secret budget talks with Nancy Pelosi

It was two years ago this month that House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) was enshrined in the the Gutless On Principles (GOP) Hall of Shame for joining forces with Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)—who was the Senate Budget Committee Chairman back…

Paul Ryan will fully fund Obama’s refugee resettlement plan

Do you remember how, following last year’s elections, the new Republican majority led by Mitch McConnell and John Boehner was going to use the budget to stop Obama’s executive amnesty plan? Do you also remember how they caved, fully funding…

Paul Ryan moves America closer to another 9/11

One of the objections to making Paul Ryan the replacement for the retiring John Boehner as Speaker was the fact that he was too close to the former leader philosophically and politically. It was believed that he would be nothing…

Paul Ryan: Meet the new boss! Same as the old boss!

Well, it sure didn’t take Paul Ryan all that long to prove that he’s just John Boehner in sheep’s clothing, did it? In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Ryan did all he could to tamp down expectations…

John Boehner and Paul Ryan: We love it when a plan comes together

Do you remember the 1980s TV show “The A-Team?” Hannibal Smith—played by George Peppard—would frequently be heard saying: Following today’s announcement by Congressional Republicans and Obama, you can almost hear those words echoing through the halls of the Capitol and…

Get ready for the Conservative Revolution!

John Boehner is retiring because of the pressure he was getting from the Conservatives in Congress. The presumed successor, Kevin McCarthy, decided not to pursue the job due to the same pressure. But the Republican 2012 vice presidential candidate, Paul…

Paul Ryan not willing to be Speaker unless Conservatives cave on principles

Last week, I wrote a piece on the prospects of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) becoming the new John Boehner as Speaker of the House. In short, I said that Conservatives should absolutely reject Ryan for just that reason; he would be the new Boehner! Well, the reluctant leader—he claims that he’s not interested in the position—is now expressing his interest in getting the gig. But his pretend willingness comes with two caveats: 1. He must receive the full support of Conservative groups like the House Freedom Caucus. 2. The rule known as the Jefferson rule, which allows anyone to call for the Speaker to vacate the chair much like Mark Meadows (R-NC) did against John Boehner this past summer, must be abandoned in the name “unity.” Besides being the epitome of arrogance, Ryan has specific motivations for making these selfish requests. By demanding unanimous support, Ryan can play the establishment card when Conservatives reject his Royal RINO-ness. This would allow him to join Mitch McConnell, the departing John Boehner and the Democrats in blaming those dangerous far right-wing extremists for an inept Congress while isolating the HFC: Let’s be clear. This is a move will ISOLATE freedom caucus. I bet […]

Obama using threats to increase Obamacare participation

ObamaCare is failing just as critics predicted more than 5 years ago. Faced with that reality, the White House is preparing to resort to the use of threats to increase ObamaCare enrollment numbers next year via the ObamaCare tax. Next year the annual fine for not buying President Obama’s overpriced health insurance will jump to $695 or 2.5% of your income, whichever is greater. As reported by John Nolte at Breitbart.com, the White House intends to use the fines as leverage in the upcoming 2016 enrollment period, which starts in November: “We need to be make sure that we are very clear and explicit about that $695 penalty so people understand the choice they are making,” said spokeswoman Lori Lodes. But she said the main emphasis will stay on the benefits of having health insurance and how the law’s subsidies can dramatically lower the cost of monthly premiums. As Nolte states, it’s no secret as to why no one is buying Obamcare — it sucks! Already, a third of the co-ops have shut down, further undermining enrollee options; the cost of premiums are skyrocketing, primarily because only the sick are signing up, and enrollees are paying for Cadillac services they […]

Exporting Oil, Again

Yesterday, I mentioned here that a bill again allowing oil exports had passed the House. Here from Marita Noon is a bit more about it, and some inside baseball about the sausage factory as well. I’m an unabashed ideologue, but I do recognize that if you are a member of Congress, you probably should pay […]

The Real House Leadership Crisis

The real source of frustration with House leadership is that they’ve given up the power of the purse. They need to get it back. The big news of the past few weeks is the House Republicans’ revolt against John Boehner, who is being forced out as Speaker of the House, setting off an odd scramble […]

End the madness! Say NO to Paul Ryan as House Speaker!

The “Who will replace John Boehner as Speaker of the House” saga continues in Washington, even though Congress is on another recess after having just returned from another recess. Good work if you can get it. Just as they did when they tried to coronate  Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as the next RINO to wield the gavel of power, many of the establishment Republicans are spending their time away from Washington trying to convince us that Paul Ryan (R-WI) is the savior America and the Republican party needs. You remember Paul Ryan, don’t you? He’s the loser who served as the running mate to Mitt Romney in the loss to Obama in 2012, and has recently received the endorsement from the “severe conservative” from Massachusetts. But Mitt isn’t the only 2012 presidential candidate in favor of a Speaker Ryan. Turns out the guy who mopped the floor with Romney, none other than the messiah himself, Barack Hussein Obama is in Ryan’s camp. There are plenty of reasons to oppose Ryan besides those I’ve already mentioned, including: On illegal immigration, Ryan’s a big believer in open borders and amnesty–a position that earned him an endorsement from Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), perhaps the most […]

Replacing Speaker Boehner: Easy as A – B – McC

As we consider a replacement for John Boehner as Speaker of the House, it’s really important to remember the A-B-McCs — Anybody But McCarthy! And while the odds are against us, the change we seek can begin with the House Freedom Caucus. If not now, when? After all, if they can’t block John Boehner 2.0 (Kevin McCarthy) from ascending to the top job, they should just throw in the towel and quit. As Daniel Horowitz tells us on Conservative Review, the problems with the Republican Party run far deeper than John Boehner, and they won’t be solved with this leadership election. The GOP base is demanding a change in course, and simply promoting another rung of repudiated leaders–the deputy arsonists of Boehner’s five-year inferno–up one notch on the totem pole will not satisfy those demands. An outcome that allows McCarthy and Scalise, baggage and all, to climb the ladder of leadership is unacceptable. Since there are only a few dozen conservative members, and they lack the votes to elect one of their own, it’s important that Conservatives understand that this was never about electing one of their own. Instead, it’s about using their leverage to overrule the next-in-line and force […]

Conservative Comedy 10/2/15

It’s Conservative Comedy time at the Strident Conservative where I bring you some of the best conservative political and religious comedy, jokes, and satire on the internet, sure to provide a good laugh to begin your weekend. Well that didn’t take long. Following a one-on-one meeting at the U.N. which gave Vladimir Putin the ability to measure the degree to which Barack Obama is a mewling pantywaist, the Russian dictator launched a surprise attack in Syria (after graciously ordering the United States to get the hell out of the way) on the anti-Assad rebels being funded and trained by the CIA. As a brilliant political analyst pointed out a long time ago (okay, it was Hope n’ Change), Putin has now made it official and uncontestable that the United States is no longer in the superpower business. We have lost our place in the world order thanks to the massive incompetence (not to mention intentional malfeasance) of the Obama administration – including former Secretary of Scapegoating Hillary “reset button” Clinton. Jodi Miller at Newsbusted takes us into the weekend with these headlines: Boehner’s resignation from Congress, Obama’s State Dinner with China’s Xi Jinping, and the Pope speaks to Congress. Additional […]

Boehner is gone – On to McConnell!

Hallelujah! John Boehner is stepping down! Now it’s time to re-channel our efforts and kick Mitch McConnell’s sorry butt out of his cushy position as the leader in the Senate. Make no mistake! Mickey is just as hostile—if not more so—toward the Conservative movement. Before last year’s election giving McConnell and Boehner a GOP Congress that they promised would bring an end to Obama’s radical, freedom-killing, socialist agenda, McConnell had already cuts a series of deals with Barry to fund Obamacare, raise the debt ceiling, and raise taxes. During the 2014 elections in 2014, McConnell openly declared war on Conservatives and T.E.A. Party Republicans. Since his selection as the Majority Leader in January McConnell has given Obama pretty much everything he wanted, including: fully funding executive amnesty, confirming Loretta “Eric Holder 2.0” Lynch as attorney general, working to rescue the Export-Import Bank, dropping the ball with the Iranian nuke deal, and doing all he can to fully fund Planned Parenthood’s baby-slaughtering operations in the current budget battle. Mickey’s established record has even prompted a senior Republican official to call for McConnell’s resignation. Calling the Kentucky senator “a good and honorable man”—a sentiment I would strongly disagree with—Roger Villere, the chairman […]
