Treasures Hidden in Plain Sight: Two Alexander Hamilton Clocks

Alexander Hamilton is everywhere! He’s in books. He’s on our currency. He’s even on Broadway. Of course, Hamilton can also be found in the numerous museums that display his portrait and curate exhibitions about him (for examples, see here, here, … Continue reading

NYC releases list of 31 genders landlords and employers must recognize

A few weeks ago I wrote an article about how liberals will hijack the conversation whenever they are promoting an unpopular agenda by incorporating the use of what George Orwell referred to in 1984 as “Newspeak” — a “political language…

What do “transgender” and “Redskins” have in common? Newspeak!

In today’s politically-correct world, New York City fines employers and landlords up to $250,000 for using the wrong pronouns when referring to sexually-confused individuals–the so-called transgendered. Under the law, he/him/his and she/here/hers must be replaced with made-up words like ze…

Weimar America

Victor Davis Hanson is nearly always worth reading, and this overall reflection is, to my mind, one of his best. So enjoy: 2016 is a pivotal year in which accustomed referents of a stable West are now disappearing. We seem to be living in a chaotic age, akin to the mid-1930s, of cynicism and skepticism. […]

America!

You know, we say a lot of bad things here, seems sometimes like the world is going to hell in a handbasket. But America is still America, and yes the resistance lives on, even in NYC.   I can remember my dad talking about doing this, on the frozen Red River of the North, back […]

Armed citizens summoned to homeland defense

David Kopel writing in The Volokh Conspiracy reminds us that once upon a time the government understood that the last line of American defense against irregular troops (or terrorists) was the armed American People. Especially this year, Pearl Harbor Day reminds us that when the world is at war, the United States homeland is not […]

Tuesday Miscellany; Mostly Free Market Edition

Some odds and ends that have been accumulating. This is an unusual piece of common sense, especially coming out of Britain, and he’s right. How good a deal for Britain is it that the president of China got a state visit and a nuclear power station and Prince William got the chance to go on Chinese […]

Widespread touchscreen ordering to come to NYC fast food restaurants by next year?

This cannot be said enough: The Actual Minimum Wage is $0.00! Why? Because that’s what you earn when you do not have a job, or business (with customers, I suppose) The Wall Street Journal reports that, on Wednesday, as predicted, the panel convened by Governor Cuomo to study fast-food wages will formally recommend paying workers […]

Take Control of the Debate.

As we move into July, with the dreadful baggage of June behind us, I find myself in a reflective mood. Three years ago this month, the Robert’s court, for the first but not last time, threw the law of the land under the bus to save Obamacare SCOTUScare. The day after that, I followed a comment on that, […]

Some (Unwanted) Advice for Ireland

Some of you may not have noticed but Ireland is going to vote tomorrow on ‘Gay Marriage’ That all well and good, I suppose. At least they get to vote on it, as opposed to here, where it is being imposed by non-elected judges with very dubious legal precedents, but we can let that slide […]

Why is the onus on the NYPD to show respect to a Mayor who has not earned it?

Nothing Says ‘Super Bowl’ Party Like Barack Obama Toilet Paper!!
Or, if that doesn’t HIT the spot, might I suggest The Obama Punching Bag instead?

New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has asked, make that warned, the Rank and File of the NYPD not to turn their backs on NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio Sunday!

Why is it though, that the onus is on the NYPD to show ‘respect’ for a Mayor who has done nothing through his words and actions but disrespect them?

Where exactly has the sincere and heartfelt apology from this Mayor been for his race baiting rhetoric?

Rhetoric that, in combination with the words of Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and Obama administration ‘race czar’ Al Sharpton, has led to what sadly appears to be a nationwide open season on police officers?

For tomorrows funeral of NYPD Police Officer Wenjian Liu, NYC Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has issued the following statement ‘requesting’ that the Rank and File of the NYPD not turn their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio…

I issue no mandates and I make no threats of discipline. But I remind you that when you don the uniform of this department, you are bound by the tradition, honor, and decency that go with it.

These men and women of the NYPD risk their collective lives each and every day keeping New York City safe and who, at the very least, deserve that the Mayor of NYC not make their jobs substantially more dangerous.

But sadly they have not even received the very least from de Blasio!

Instead they hear him tell the story of how he warns his son Dante to fear the police or they are forced to sit by and watch as he reappoints Laura Johnson to the bench after she had released without bail two men who had ‘allegedly’ threatened police officers mere days after two members of the NYPD had been executed.

What respect has de Blasio shown the NYPD? None!

And to the Mayor, his minions at the New York Times and Bill Bratton, respect is something that is earned and once gone, is extremely difficult to earn back.

That’s true in the best of circumstances where lives are not on the line.

It’s exponentially more difficult in the situation between the NYPD and a Mayor whose actions speak much louder than his empty words!

And yet, other than his empty and meaningless rhetoric, de Blasio has done nothing to show the Rank and File that he is anything but who they thought he was.

These brave women of the NYPD need to do what they have to do come Sunday and they deserve a leader much better than the one they currently have living in Gracie Mansion!
