Trump’s inauguration speech: The rise of FDR and the fall of Reagan

Many times, inauguration speeches have been memorable for the way they communicate the vision and hope of the new president for America. And while Trump’s address contained a few memorable lines, as a whole it was, as Ben Shapiro would observe, “…a populist brew of government interventionism, patriotic rhetoric, law and order toughness, protectionist economics, and isolationist foreign policy. It was politically brilliant, and it had little to do with conservatism.”

Nanny-state liberals sue Coke for using tobacco-like deception

In a classic redistribute-the-wealth, liberty-robbing effort by nanny-state liberals, the non-profit Praxis Project, a “movement support intermediary committed to capacity building for social change”–like I said, nanny-state liberals–has filed a lawsuit against the Coca-Cola Company for engaging in what they…

The Best and Worst News of 2016

There was some genuinely good news in 2016, which is more than I can say for 2015 (my “best” development for that year was some polling data, followed by some small-ball tinkering). Though the good news for 2016 was mostly overseas. Here are the four things from around the world that made me happy this […]

Libertarian Christmas vs Socialist Christmas

Back in 2014, I looked at the vitally important battle over whether Santa Claus is a liberal or conservative. Let’s now broaden that debate and contemplate the difference between libertarian Christmas and socialist Christmas. We’ll start with this much-deserved jab at socialists, the people who continue to believe in coerced equality even though such systems […]

Trudeau and Obama use revisionist history to praise Castro

Much to the vexation of Colin Kaepernick, there is one less Communist, murdering dictator in the world today after the death of Fidel Castro over the weekend. This is great news to those who believe in the God-given right to…

Minnesota officials kidnap boy, begin his gender transition without parental consent

After the Supreme Court ruling last year in Obergefell v. Hodges that unconstitutionally legalized same-sex marriage, the LGBT movement went right to work advancing the next phase of their radical agenda by focusing on the “T” portion of LGBT–the so-called…

Anti-Trump protests hit Minnesota

WCCO-TV is reporting that organized protests stopped traffic on I-94 for almost an hour Thursday night. According to WCCO, “more than 3,600 people were expected for the march Thursday night from the University of Minnesota’s West Bank campus through the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.” Later in the article, WCCO-TV reported that Robin Wonsley was one of the […]

Obamacare lies, damned lies, and statistics

Almost a week ago, I wrote about how the Democrats were tripping over themselves in an effort to defend the free-market-busting bridge to a single-payer, government-run health care system passed into law under the Orwellian-sounding title of the Affordable Care…

And now the bad news, Obamacare working as planned

As Obamacare continues to make headlines due to exploding premiums and insurance companies dropping out, Democrats are stumbling all over themselves to defend the free-market-busting bridge to a single-payer, government-run healthcare system. Actually, as you’ll see below, calling it a…

Could your Congressman pass an FBI security check?

First they infiltrated the unions, gaining full control in 1995. They then used the union money and leverage to purge the Democrat Party leadership of moderates and conservatives, replacing them with union and communist sympathizers. After that, they used their…

On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children between the ages of six-years-old and seven-years-old along with six adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Prior to the school shootings, Lanza had also murdered his mother.…

Is Bernie Sanders Crazy, Blind, or Evil?

I live-tweeted last night’s debate between the Governor Mike Pence and Senator Tim Kaine. As the debate closed, I summed up my reaction with two tweets, one of which sadly observed that Donald Trump does not share Ronald Reagan’s belief in smaller government and more freedom. And because I’m fair and balanced, I also reminded […]

Bill Clinton slams “crazy” Obamacare, but it’s not what you think

Free Markets and Small Government vs. Redistributionism and State Planning

Over the years, I’ve repeatedly tied to explain why socialism is a terrible system while also explaining that we should be careful not to label people as socialists if it’s more accurate to refer to them as statists, redistributionists, cronyists, or fascists. To help illuminate this issue, here’s a four-quadrant matrix. Free markets are on […]

Winning the Fight against Socialism and other Forms of Statism

Socialism is a very bad concept. It deserves mockery rather than respect. But that’s true of all statist ideologies. Last year, as part of a column on the collapse of the Soviet Empire, I put together a statism spectrum showing the degree to which various nations allow economic liberty. I thought this effort was useful […]
