If you read nothing else today, take the time to read this gripping interview on the November 2015 Bataclan jihad attack in Paris with Eagles of Death Metal vocalist Jesse Hughes. The interview was conducted by Gavin McInnes over at Taki’s Magazine. Hughes’s band was onstage when the jihad killings occurred. This is his eye witness account of what happened. Hughes feels that the media totally misrepresented the story, with details pulled out of context from his previous interviews and manipulated to support editorializing and commentary that was completely opposed to his views.
Hughes tells exactly what happened, how it was handled and the implications for the future in the War on Jihad.
Here’s a taste:
McInnes: It’s hard to talk about the attack without sounding like you’re blaming the victims, but it’s impossible to deny fear of Islamophobia and fear of guns led to a lot of deaths that night.
Jesse Hughes:: I saw fear fall like a blanket on the whole crowd and they fell like wheat in the wind—the way you would before a god. I was totally alert from the very beginning. The first thing I needed to do was find my girl. Fear took a backseat and “where’s my girl?” took over. I could smell gunpowder in the backstage area and I knew someone fired a round back there. I saw a guy with an FAL and when he turned to face me his eyes looked like marbles. He was stoned out of his mind, and we now know they were on Xanax and cocaine. I recognized him. I’d seen him earlier in the day and noticed him staring at us.
McInnes: They were in the venue early. That implies some staff were in on it.
Jesse Hughes:I got in a lot of trouble for saying that. I know for sure that they were in there early. I remember them staring at my buddy. I just chalked it up to Arab envy. You know what I mean? When a Muslim sees a cocky American dude with tattoos, he stares at him. I realized later it was Abdeslam and he was staring at my buddy because they thought he was a threat. There’s no denying the terrorists were already inside, and they had to get in somehow. During the shooting I went outside and the backstage door was propped open. How did that happen?
McInnes: Do you think political correctness is killing our natural instincts and making us vulnerable?
Jesse Hughes:Definitely. There were two girls who were involved. They were at the venue and vanished before the shooting, and these women were in traditional Muslim garb. They knew people wouldn’t check them because of the way they were dressed. They got caught a few days later.
McInnes:The fear of offending Muslims is a terrorist’s greatest weapon.
Jesse Hughes:Look at the guys who bombed Brussels. They were wearing black gloves on one hand. Their luggage was too heavy to lift, but they didn’t want anyone helping them with it. Nobody brought any of this up until after the bombs went off.
McInnes:We’d rather die than be called a bigot.
Jesse Hughes: How is a faith being associated with racism? Just take out the word “Islam” and replace it with “communism.” It’s an ideology. The same way the Rosenbergs could sell nuclear secrets from within America is the same way Muslim terrorists can attack us from within. It’s okay to be discerning when it comes to Muslims in this day and age.
McInnes: Where is this push coming from? Is it all our fault?
Jesse Hughes:Of course not. When you’re at a soccer game in Europe and you see the words “United Arab Emirates,” you know there is a lot of Arab money floating around and influencing the dialogue. The conversation is constantly being steered away from scrutiny. They think we’re fools.
Arab money is a pollutant. So many movies are made with Arab money. George Clooney doesn’t kiss the ass of the Arabs for no reason. American movies are the best way to influence the hearts and minds of the world.

Islamist killers struck again today. This time, the scene was Munich,Germany.
One of the killers targeted a McDonald’s restaurant near the Olympia Einkaufszentrum mall in the district of Moosach and started firing into the crowded eatery while yelling the old war cry ‘Allahu Akbar!’
One woman who was actually saw the shooter just before he started his rampage told CNN, ‘I come out of the toilet and I hear like an alarm, boom, boom, boom. He’s killing the children. The children were sitting to eat. They can’t run.’
After shooting up the McDonald’s, the killer sauntered into the mall itself and continued gunning down people, all the while screaming ‘Allahu Akbar!’ So far, nine people are dead and many badly wounded. The death toll so far may include one of the jihadis. At least 21 wounded were taken to the hospital in today’s toll. At least three are said to be in critical condition.
According to Chief of Munich Police Marcus Dagloria Martins, there are at least three jihadi killers involved. In his last statement,he said, ‘We are at the moment after three attackers. We have about 100 people on site and we are trying to evacuate people from the site. Our priority is to catch the attackers at this stage and then we will inform you again.
The entire city has been shut down as the police hunt for the two – or more – still unaccounted for. The main German rail company Deutsche Bahn has stopped all train traffic to Munich’s main station.
This is the second jihad attack in Germany in less than a week. Last Monday, a 17-year-old jihadi attacked people on a train in an in an ax-and-knife attack on a train near the Bavarian city of Wuerzburg and badly wounded four people as well as another woman outside as he fled until he was shot and killed by police.
‘We welcome you to our country!’
Are the German people waking up yet to the fact that these ‘guests’ have no intention of sharing, but are there to take over? Do they realize that they are in the process of becoming a despised minority in their own country?
Almost all of these ‘refugees’ are young men of military age. Did the Germans actually not notice this? Did they actually expect anything different?
How many more lives will it take? And when I ask that question, I am not just talking about Germany. They’re just today’s event d’jour.
UPDATE: The police an ‘all clear’. The Jihadi, an 18-year-old Shi’ite Muslim killed nine people and wounded 16 others, including a number of children. People outside the mall claim to have seen at least three armed men,but the police are claiming that the killer ‘apparently acted alone’ which means they’re either right about that or that the other two got away.
Here’s the punchline – Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae told a news conference the suspect (‘suspect’???) was a dual citizen from Munich and his motive was still “fully unclear”.
‘Suspect?’ ‘Fully unclear?’ You can’t make this stuff up.

In France, July 14th is Bastille Day, when the French revel on the anniversary of their independence and the beginnings of the establishment of their republic. In some ways it’s very much like America’s July Fourth. There are parades, topped by a military parade along Paris’ famed Champs-Elysées along with fireworks and gatherings in public places.
This Bastille Day, there were fireworks of a different sort.
Nice is a common seaside spot for French families to take a vacation holiday this time of year, and one of the Bastille Day attractions is a magnificent fireworks show, one of many along France’s Cote D’Azur on the Mediterranean. Hundreds of people were enjoying the gorgeous sight of the fireworks reflected on the water.
This was the target of a jihadi who plowed into the crowd at full speed that was leaving the celebration on the Promenade des Anglais. In a large rented white truck,he drove through them for a kilometer of so – over a mile- chasing down more victims and even pursuing them on to the pavement in places. He then stepped out of the vehicle and opened fire indiscriminately on the traumatized milling crowd until he was shot down by police and killed. Here’s what it looked like:
The death toll is at 84 so far, not counting the jihadi and rising, with a number of people in critical condition.
A large cache of heavy weapons, grenades and explosives was found in the truck. And while the authorities are still noncommital, a number of eyewitnesses have said there were two jihadis in the truck, one who fired at the crowd while the other was running people down. It would certainly make sense given the large body count. And if that’s the case, one of them escaped.
And a note to President Barack Hussein Obama and Mrs. Clinton…France’s strict gun laws, a mirror of how these people would love to disarm Americans doesn’t stop jihadis from getting whatever weapons they want.
This particular tactic is pretty much standard operating procedure in the Middle East, although usually it takes the form of stationary truck bombs. Recently in Israel, one of the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians was working at a construction site and attempted a similar attack on pedestrians using a bulldozer. Given that it was Israel, his results were nowhere near as successful as the jihad attack in Nice. He was shot down and killed by one of his intended victims in minutes.
In a separate incident, the Eiffel Tower, a symbol of France’s glory and achievement is on fire.
The official line is that the fire was caused by a truck carrying fireworks that somehow caught on fire.
Odd though, since the Eiffel Tower is also a traditional site of Bastille Day fireworks, fireworks explode rather than burn and the fireworks themselves are not set off right by the Tower, where the truck was, but some distance away.
And being iron, the Tower doesn’t burn, although some of the buildings inside would. In fact, the last fire on the Eiffel Tower was a kitchen fire in a restaurant. But the Tower has never before been on fire like this.
The jihadi who was shot down by police has been identified as a 31-year-old Tunisian Muslim named Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel. What angers me most today is the media’s attempt to portray him as a simple criminal. That’s pretty much based on an interview with his Muslim cousin, who of course claimed that Bouhlel was ‘not a Muslim’ because he ‘ate pork, drank alcohol and those are forbidden by Islam’ according to the Daily Mail’s account.
The 9/11 hijackers also ate pork, drank alcohol and frequently visited strip clubs, if you remember. That’s allowed if you are on a jihad for Allah and need cover. So is lying to infidels is to advance Islam. To quote Mohammed himself numerous times in the Qu’ran and hadiths, ‘War is deception.’
And as we also know, the back of the truck was filled with fully automatic weapons, explosives and hand grenades. Items like that aren’t obtainable by a simple, inexperienced loan wolf criminal, especially not in France. Speculation on my part, but I think Bouhlel’s mission (and that of his partner if he had one) was a replica of Paris; murder as many people as possible on the Promenade and then proceed to a targeted building like a club or restaurant where other jihadis were waiting, take it over, wire it with explosives to prevent a police or special forces assault and either trade the hostages for imprisoned jihadis or just simply kill off those inside.
If I’m right, than it’s likely Bouhlel failed to make it to the rendezvous point because one or more of the police bullets disabled his truck, and he exited to murder a few more infidels before he was gunned down. In any event, there’s no way he was some kind of lone wolf ne’er do well who simply snapped. Too much planning and preparation went into this, and too many guns and equipment were on site for one unassisted wack job to obtain on his own without a network of experienced jihadis involved.
Bouhlel himself was allowed into France courtesy of a resident permit by France’s Socialist Hollande government. And even though he committed several felonies and was on the police radar, deportation from France was never even considered. Comment typique!
Speaking of which, France’s President François Hollande confirmed this was a terrorist attack in his statement. “We will continue to hit those who threaten us,” Hollande said. The attacker, he said, acted “with the intention to kill, to crush and to massacre.”
“It is clear that we must do everything we can to fight against this scourge of terrorism.”
‘Everything we can’ apparently consists of extending a state of emergency another three months and -wait for it – and calling up France’s ‘operational reservists’ which includes quite a large number of totally untrained civilians for increased border control. Monsieur Le President apparently would rather not have people think too much about the fact that this jihadi didn’t cross the border. He was allowed into France openly and knowingly by Hollande’s government, along with a lot of others just like him.
This buffoon still thinks he’s ‘fighting terrorism.’
The local newspaper, Nice-Matin, is also reporting that reports that the man driving the truck shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ — ‘Allah is greatest’ — before being shot dead by police. The old war cry…you’d think that would give Hollande a clue.
I remember 9/11 quite well, and the aftermath. Do you? After the shock of seeing 3,000 on our own soil murdered on our own soil was absorbed, Americans reacted with visceral patriotism, adrenaline and fighting spirit. The nation was united. Young men and women were enlisting in droves in our volunteer military, people were flying American flags from their cars and the their homes, and the American people were ready to be called upon to make sacrifices for victory the defeat of our murderous enemies by our president.
What we got instead was President George W. Bush telling us that Islam was a religion of peace, that we were engaged in a ‘great war on terror’ with a handful of fanatics, to go shopping at the mall and let the government handle it.
The mood change afterwards was palpable. While no one I remember said so openly, may of us understood afterwards that the fix was in, especially when the Bush Administration went back to business as usual with the Saudis which was the intent all along. And Islam? It was George W. Bush and his administration that put out the welcome mat for the Saudi and Emirates funded Muslim Brotherhood Islamist front groups and jihadi mosques. Barack Hussein Obama just revved up the process on steroids, along with seeing to it that he was able to increase the Muslim population of America as much as possible with unvetted ‘refugees.’
Boston, San Bernardino, Orlando, Ft. Hood…those are just the beginning. The French are further along simply because they started earlier, and with more gusto.
We aren’t fighting ‘terrorism.’ We aren’t even just fighting ISIS, who are just one sector, just as Japan or Italy were just one part of the Axis powers of WWII.
We’re fighting exactly what the subtitle of this site, created over a decade ago says we’re fighting – The War on Jihad.
While individual Muslim may be able to live peacefully in a free society, after 1,500 years it ought to obvious that Islam itself cannot, at least not the major branches. It simply isn’t in its nature to play well with others, a conclusion I have to admit I avoided for sometime because of the Muslims I know and like in my own life. But after the orgy of violence in Mumbai, I realized I was fooling myself. The Muslims I know with two major exceptions are fairly secular, and the ones whom aren’t have cherry-picked their own version of Islam to the point where they would be labeled heretics by your average Sunni or Shia. There are indeed others like them, but the momentum in Islam, and the part of it paid deference by many of our leaders is with Islamist fascism and jihad. As the Pew Trust polls revealed, the majority of Muslims, especially in the Muslim world understand quite well that Islam is at war with the West. We’re the ones that don’t.
Terrorism is merely a tactic of that war. And one reason it continues to work is because for the perpetrators and their enablers, there are no real life consequences. We’re dealing with a morality alien to ours that we don’t understand. Walk with me awhile on this one.
Islam is unique among the major religions because while there are obviously Muslims who live differently, it has nothing akin to the basic religious imperative that we’d call the Golden Rule of do unto others as you’d have them do unto you. Not when it comes to non-Muslims. So there is no ethical payback for raping them (‘what thy right hand possesses’), killing them or deceiving them.
For Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, there were simply no consequences no matter how this turned out. If he escaped, he’d be a hero to those who counted most with him as a victorious jihad warrior. As a dead man, he’d be a heroic martyr savoring the carnal delights of Mohammed’s Paradise. If he were taken alive, he’d merely be an inmate in a relatively humane prison environment protected and looked up to by the other Muslim prisoners, and always with the hope that another raid might produce some hostages to be swapped for his freedom.
Nothing and nobody he cared deeply about was at risk. For him, it was a win win. That’s why jihadi recruiting is so successful. A key part of stopping these attacks is to provide real world consequences for the Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlels of the world as well as their paymasters, sympathizers and enablers that make the every idea of carrying them out abhorrent, frightening and repulsive. And without going into details for brevity’s sake, there are many ways to do exactly that. Call it the modern version of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) that worked so well in the Cold War, adapted for Islam’s special characteristics.
I have a message for the people of France.
You are our oldest ally, and in our time of need you helped us gain our freedom from the tyrants who sought to oppress us. And we repaid that blood debt with interest in the Argonne, at Belleau Wood,at Saint – Mihilel and again on the beaches of Normandy. The evidence of that repayment is still buried in your soil.
In spite of the differences that have come between us at times, that long standing bond still remains, at least where I am concerned. And it compels me to be honest.
Your republic is in grave danger. Your leadership has betrayed you, and imported massive numbers of enemies to France. Just as with Vichy, they are appeasing the Germans in their attempt to dominate Europe.
You must resist if you are to retain your freedom, your honor and even perhaps your very lives. Charles Martel, your brave ancestor who crushed the Muslim invaders at Poitiers and drove them from France’s sacred soil…how would he react to your present situation? What would he say? How would he advise you?
If France is to survive, you must rally around new leadership and take your country back. And you must do it now. Your election takes place in just under a year from now. How many more attacks like Paris and Nice can you absorb before then?
Fortunately, you have at least one leader to rally around, and perhaps others. Marine Le Pen is not perfect, but she is a courageous woman who at least understands the nature of the enemy that is destroying France and other ancient states in Europe.
The time to save France is now. Do it for yourselves, for your children and for your children’s children. Do it so you can once again hold your heads up proudly, and so France can remain France.
And in doing so, set a proud example for other nations.
Vive La France!

On December 20th, Lakeisha Holloway drove a car onto a crowded sidewalk on the Las Vegas Strip in front of the Paris Hotel & Casino, and Planet Hollywood. She killed a mother of three while injuring many others, some critically.
The Vegas police had no difficulty in saying that the attack was deliberate and charging her with a number of felony offenses, including the murder of Jessica Valenzuela, 32, of Buckeye, Arizona, who was visiting Vegas with her husband, child abuse or neglect (her three year old was in the back seat) and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
Her tires were flattened in the assault and she was apprehended by the police not to far from the crime scene.
This so closely resembled the attacks using cars going on in Jerusalem that my first thought immediately was that this was a jihadi strike, probably by someone indoctrinated at a radical mosque.
But what really had the alarm bells ringing for me was when the police described her demeanor as ‘stoic’ and said she had given them a reason for the assault. But Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lomabardo refused to disclose to the media what that reason was when asked about a motive, saying “She did (offer and explanation for the attacks) and I’m not comfortable disclosing that at this point because it is an ongoing investigation. I can’t go any further into that comment.”
After what happened in San Bernardino, the only rational explanation for his reluctance to disclose what the killer had told him was if Islam was involved and he got a call from upstairs somewhere to keep his mouth shut about it. The police did the exact same thing in San Bernardino, refusing to reveal the killer’s names until bloggers and reporters heard them mentioned on the police scanner and outed them.
The same thing just happened. Various eyewitnesses are saying now that the car windows were open and Lakeisha Holloway was screaming ‘Allahu Akbar!’ as she mowed down pedestrians:
The witness went on to say “As this unfolded, the only thing I recall as this happened is the insane sound of her car accelerating and the voice from the car was screaming “Allah Akbar!” I’ve heard the sound enough times on the news that I was waiting for a bomb to blow up or guns to start firing. “
I have a feeling that after Christmas as more and more on this comes out the authorities are going to have to admit what happened. I have a distinct feeling that my first gut feeling, that this was a jihad attack is going to be proven correct. I hope I’m wrong.

France’s socialist President Hollande’s response to the attack on Paris was a desultory quickie airstrike on ISIS’s Syrian capitol of Rakkah that amounted to 20 bombs being dropped, none of which did much damage. He badly needs France’s Muslim vote and the anti-war left vote to stay in power, so he has no intention pf alienating them.
Marine Le Pen, leader of the rightest Front National and Hollande’s likely opponent is rising steadily in the poll and has no use for such constraints. As she shows here, she is literally becoming the spirit of a defiant France in fighting Islamofascism (emphasis mine):
For the sixth time in a year, Islamic terrorism has struck France—and this time more viciously than ever before. Since then, from all corners of the world, there have been countless outpourings of friendship, salutation, and support for the admirable courage with which the French people have faced these trials. Everywhere it is sung, the Marseillaise embodies our universal determination, our unwillingness to yield to the barbarism of Islamic fundamentalism. Charles De Gaulle once said “There exists an immemorial covenant between the grandeur of France and the freedom of the world.” I am convinced the world recognizes this truth.
And yet, if the enemies of liberty have decided to attack France with such barbarity, it’s because over decades our country has forgotten that liberty must be organized, that it must be defended, that it is a kind of power which must be nurtured. To forget that truth weakens freedom.
Liberty is exercised in the context of national community. It is armed with the principles of common sense, principles without hate. It is synonymous with a nation defined by strong borders, defined by our values, defined by our way of life, which is appreciated around the world.
Too often, we have confused hospitality with blindness. Not all of those we’ve opened our doors to have come to France with a love of our way of life. Today, under pressure from a European Union that renders us weaker and less free, France faces a cruel reality: It only takes a dozen terrorists—some French in nationality, but not spirit, and others capitalizing on the poorly managed migrant crisis—to take the lives of at 129 of our countrymen. It is up to us to affirm, without hesitation, that France’s freedom was built over centuries intentionally and collectively. That’s what defines a nation.
From here we must take a series of common-sense steps: We must reinvest in our police forces, our border security, our military. We must reverse a decade of disastrous budgetary decisions. We must reclaim our national borders permanently and rescind French citizenship to dual-national jihadists because they do not deserve to be considered French. We must close radical mosques, which are a site of hate. We must stop welcoming thousands of migrants and regain our national sovereignty.
We must also clarify Islam’s role in France. Our Muslim compatriots must no longer be hostage to radical Islamists. French rule of law and a renewed commitment to secularism will liberate them.
There is more: the threat we face calls us to ally with those who fight fundamentalist Islam. For a long time, I have been calling for a revision of French diplomatic policy in Africa and the Middle East. Let’s stop undercutting sovereign states, as Nicolas Sarkozy did disastrously in Libya in 2011. We need to work with Russia, Syria and Iran as well as other foreign powers including the United States which are fighting radical Islam. Let’s bring to a halt the obsolete cold wars and incestuous relationships with untrustworthy countries—I mean specifically Turkey or Qatar.
France has overcome numerous challenges in its long history. Our capacity to rebound has never failed. Many in the world know that a strong France, faithful to itself and master of its own destiny, is indispensable to world peace. Let us stand together. It is the only way to defeat, once and for all, fundamentalism and the enemies of liberty.
Well said, Madame Le Pen…toujours l’adace, à la victoire! Récupérer l’esprit de Poitiers!
And of course,lagniappe, that scene:

Deux Cow-boys américains rescousse de nouveau le jour!
At least that’s what the French are saying about two Americans on a French train who took out an armed jihadi who was in the process of shooting it up:
A gunman opened fire aboard a high-speed train from Amsterdam to Paris on Friday, wounding at least three people before two American passengers subdued him, French officials said.
The Americans were not immediately identified, but France’s interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said they “were particularly courageous and showed great bravery in very difficult circumstances.’’
Capt. Jeff Davis, a Defense Department spokesman in Washington, said that an American military member was on the train and had been wounded in the episode. He said Pentagon officials had not yet confirmed the name or rank or service, or whether the second American also was a service member.
The jihadi, whom the New York times referred to below the fold as “described by French officials as a 26-year-old of Moroccan origin armed with an automatic weapon and a knife” began shooting up the the Amsterdam to Paris express in the northern French city of Arras, which may ring some bells for veterans of two World Wars. Their blood is part of that soil.
The two Americans didn’t hesitate for a second. They jumped the armed jihadi with their bare hands, subdued him and held him until the French authorities arrived to collect him. If not for them, the casualty list would have been far higher.
It is a mark of our times that this story of American heroism is relegated to the back pages of Pravda-on-the-Hudson rather than meriting a front page spot. Frankly, I’m surprised they published it at all.
In France, it’s headlines.
UPDATE: According to CNN and the Daily Mail, the two Americans were members of the U.S. Marines. They rushed the jihadi when they recognized the sound of him loading his Kalashnikov rifle. One of them was wounded subduing the gunman.
French authorities found 9 magazines of ammo on the train, holding almost 300 rounds. The jihadi also had a knife and a handgun. The train had 550 passengers on board, and there’s no doubt that if it were not for these two Marines, a massacre would have occurred.

The Democrat-dominated Senate Intelligence committee finally made public its report on the CIA’s interrogation policy during the Bush years. There was no credible reason to make the report public, since the Justice Department has already investigated this not once but twice and failed to file any charges.
These incidents of enhanced interrogation – which hardly constitute torture in any case, given the circumstances – occurred over a decade ago. members of America’s security establishment including Democrats Leon Panetta and former CIA Director George Tenet were emphatic in their opposition to this report being released publicly because of the danger to national security, providing what amounted to a primer for jihadis in what to expect from American interrogators and what to claim was done to them in the future, and the endangerment of personnel serving overseas as well as to American prisoners in and the hands of Islamic State and elsewhere. As Colonel Ralph Peters and others put it, it amounted to aid and comfort to America’s enemies..or would if we were actually in a declared war.
So why release this publicly now? Simple, really. It accomplishes two things. First it provides political cover for Democrats who were fully briefed about the enhanced interrogation techniques at the time and is and who now claim they knew nothing, particularly Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, wielding the gavel for the last time and Senator Jay D. Rockefeller IV from West Virginia who is now leaving the senate. The second reason is score settling with the CIA, and crippling it so that it no longer can function. The rest of the Democrats on the committee are either lame ducks on their way out who no longer care or hard edged members of the Left like Ron Wyden and Barbara Mikulski, who have always hated the CIA as a matter of principle.
Rockefeller has been known to try this sort of thing before, and as it happens, there’s a clear record he was fully briefed on all of this at the time. Senator Feinstein’s record of selective memory on these sorts of things is almost as laughable as her California colleague Nancy Pelosi’s.
None of the Republicans on the committee participated in this dangerous nonsense and exercise in political thuggery, not even Susan Collins. This committee report was exclusively a Democrat project.
NBC’s chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel was fairly blunt about this, to the point where I’m surprised it got on the air:
I think this is really about changing the narrative of American history. This process went on, it was a brutal process. It was legal at the time, whether it should have been legal or not, I think, is highly debatable. It was legal at the time. The CIA was asked to do it. The CIA was passing on its intelligence to the President. So everyone in the world knew what was going on, including by the way, the Senate, which is now pretending to be a bit of a babe in the woods. They knew what was going on at the time and in many cases were quite happy with the intelligence they were getting.
I think this is about rewriting the narrative of history. When we look back, how are we going to remember the period? Are we going to remember a period in which the rogue evil CIA was beating people, in some cases to death, and the politicians didn’t know about it? Or are we going to look back and say the politicians were plenty aware of this, the CIA beat people to death, and then Senate tried to come out and say, “Well, you know, we didn’t know anything about it,” and trying to wash their hands of the situation? And to be honest, I think it’s a little bit of the latter.
Not only that, but a bi-partisan group of former CIA heads and intelligence personnel, in anticipation of this nonsense have actually put together a response and a website to give a true picture of what actually went on, and to rebut the more egregious of the report’s accusations.
The allegations themselves? That in order to save American lives our CIA interrogators and others (of course, the report only mentions and attacks the CIA)waterboarded known terrorists, kept them in stress positions for long periods of time, subjected them to sleep deprivation, and at times allegedly threatened their loved ones to induce them to give intelligence on what were imminent threats to American lives.
Oh, the humanity!
I’ve actually explored the subject of torture before, back when Attorney General Eric Holder released the so-called ‘torture memos’ which came to nothing except to seriously lower the morale and efficiency of the men tasked with interrogating America’s enemies, and to inform al-Qaeda and other jihadis about our interrogation techniques and the limits placed on our interrogators:
The problem with most physical torture is that it can be incredibly inefficient much of the time. Given an individual with a sufficiently strong will, it can take hours, days, months or even years to accomplish the desired end.
Combining the administration of drugs like sodium penathol, baradanga, and sodium amytal with a skilled interrogator is normally quicker, more efficient and easier on the basement janitorial crew afterwards. It also eliminates the nasty problem of false confessions and information that sometimes tends to go with the territory when you get your answers by using an electric drill on somebody’s hands. However, there’s no doubt that waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques can work quite well, especially when a threat is imminent and time is of the essence. And they’re useful tools as psychological threats to promote cooperation, even if the techniques themselves aren’t used.
I’ll even go a step further and let you know that if I thought a jihadi had knowledge of an imminent attack (which turned out to be the case with Khalid Sheik Mohammed and probably with others)and were in a position to make the call, I’d have done exactly the same thing and perhaps even gone a bit further. American lives matter to paraphrase a popular slogan these days.
When I wrote this 5 years ago, I suggested that what was really needed was a covert, clear policy that could be invoked in situations when information is needed quickly and American lives are at stake as well as other non-violent but effective techniques that could be used in such cases.
Of course, this being the era of Obama, nothing like that has even been considered, let alone implemented.
For now, this sordid attempt at revisionism and political kabuki theater will of course be front page news, pushed by the usual suspects. Of course, none of those usual suspects is going to blame these senators and their accomplices – I can think of no more appropriate word – when and if we get hit with a major terrorist strike in the future.
Or make the connection that it happened because we missed out on operational intel because our CIA was handcuffed in how if gathered that information or because our interrogators were too intimidated to question jihadis in custody with sufficient vigor.
UPDATE: The committees Republicans were unanimous is disputing this report’s findings. In fact, they have filed a minority rebuttal disputing it in detail.

President Obama today revealed – surprise! – that he has no strategy for even combating, let alone defeating Islamic State. His excuse is that he’s ordered his military advisers to give him “a range of options,” which is another confession of how inept this president is.
He’s known about Islamic State (formerly ISIS) for a long time now now, and even had a significant part in Islamic State’s growth, arming and training them with the assistance of Turkey and Qatar. The mess with Islamic State is very much of Barack Obama’s making. And let’s not forget that his illegal intervention in Libya to save the jihadis and al-Qaeda militias in Benghazi, that allowed all of Khaddaffi’s arsenal fall into jihadi hands and created a failed state now known as ‘jihadi central’ where groups like Islamic State’s allies al Nusrah, al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM) and others now have a base to arm and train.
Yet, after all that, this president never bothered to have our military put together a contingency plan to deal with any possible blowback, and is just now consulting with the military and ‘waiting for options!’
In the president’s actual statement, he of course substituted ‘we’ rather then ‘he’, because as you know, nothing is ever his fault.I actually know children who are more responsible when they’re confronted by an error.
But the problem of defeating Islamic State is not as simple as it seems. The president’s dysfunctional buffoonery aside, there are a lot of considerations here that need to be looked at.
The first part of making any decision is actually having definable foreign policy goals, something this president seems to lack except for his fetish for empowering and protecting Islamists.
So job one, the way I see it, is to formulate such goals. I think eliminating imminent security risks to America is a good one. And if that’s the goal, simply bombing the hummus out of Islamic State, something I’ve heard a lot of people push for, won’t do it. The reverse in fact.
It has apparently never occurred to them that odious as Islamic State is, they are a counterbalance to an almost equally odious Iranian regime. Taking out Islamic State only helps Iran and the likes of Hezbollah consolidate their goal of a nuclear armed Shi’ite bloc.
That, by the way, is one of the main reasons why taking out Saddam Hussein was such a dumb idea, and why old hands like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld tried to talk George W. Bush out of it.
Iran has been gulling the West on their rogue nuclear weapons program for almost a decade now, and here has been no progress in terms of diplomacy in getting them to stop, while the centrifuges keep spinning. Nor will there be. Iran is the key to this situation, and a much more serious threat than Islamic State.
So, how to accomplish the goal of eliminating these security threats to America?
The first thing, of course, is to be honest at long last and finally let the peoples of the West know what we’re fighting. Call it Islamism, Islamic fascism, Radical Islam, jihad, whatever you will. But identifying it without tiptoeing around it and letting the peoples of the West know what’s at stake is key. We are fighting an ideology. And it’s an ideology that has to be shamed, demonized and ridiculed, especially in the West, with no false notions about political correctness. Propaganda works both ways:
The West need to understand what characterizes jihad, and that while Islamic State is a Sunni organization, the same applies to Iran, the other, Shi’ite side of the same coin. We are not dealing with rational actors as we understand the term, and we need to understand the dedication and fanaticism of our enemies, just as we did in WWII. And we need to also understand that this needs to be a war, not an ‘operation’ or a few desultory airstrikes. This video, from Islamic State about the taking of Mosul and surrounding areas is valuable in achieving that perspective:
The simplest and best first step is the old one of arming and strengthening our friends while destroying our enemies. To me, that means a strong and independent Kurdistan that’s a US ally, while leaving the Shi’ites to hold their line in the south near Baghdad. There’s no sense whatsoever in giving the Shi’ite regime in Iraq much more in money and support. They’ve already had over $25 billion in arms, training and logistics lavished on them and have performed with all the martial fervor and expertise of the majority of the ARVN troops in South Vietnam. All those shiny American arms and supplies ended up in Islamic State’s hands. But the Iraqi army can can probably manage to hold a line at Baghdad and points south, especially if The Islamic State has other fronts to worry about.
The Kurds, on the other hand have already proven that in anything like an equal fight they can hold their own and win. And they would also have the incentive of fighting for an independent Kurdistan, a dream they’ve had for years. Kurdistan is where we should have made out base and our stand in the beginning, a naturally democratic,pro-American enclave that begged us to do so. At least they were pro-American until they were betrayed by President Bush and President Obama, but I think the relationship with the Kurds is salvageable, although perhaps not with President Obama in power.
The next step would be a much improved relationship with Israel. This would include a joint project for a pre-emptive strike to take out Iran’s nukes and Iran’s capacity to cause mischief to anyone for some time. Tactical nukes might unfortunately be necessary. At this point, it would almost certainly be necessary to take out Iran’s oil and gas infrastructure and refineries as well to make sure their nuclear ambitions stay dormant, something that could have been avoided had the job been done a lot earlier.
I would also leave the carnage and destruction intact, certainly as long as any semblance of the present regime is in power. Some monuments are built of stone, others of rubble. But both fulfill a similar function, that of remembrance. Just ask the Germans and the Japanese.
I repeat, Iran is the key to the region, not Islamic State. And Iran can be dealt with, more or less swiftly and decisively because of its systemic vulnerabilities, its fixed address and its lack of sufficient air and sea power. This is not to say that a strike on Iran would be without cost, but the cost will be infinitely less if it is done now before Iran achieves nuclear weapons capability than later.President Obama’s thoughts about strategy to the contrary, a nuclear amred Shi’ite block is not going to be something that can be worked with or ‘contained.’ Iran’s demographics and plunging birthrate doesn’t give Iran much time to put the Shi’ite hegemony they want together, and the Ayatollahs know it.
It is our failure to deal effectively with Iran, it’s fomenting of terrorism and its rogue nuclear program that has caused the present crisis. If not for that, the Russians would not be a factor and Basher Assad would have had to come to terms with Syria’s Sunni majority. Instead, he had the means to expel millions of them.
Without the war in Syria, ISIS would never have received arms and training covertly from the Obama Administration, with the help of Turkey and Qatar. Without Iran, Iraq’s Shi’ites would have had to compromise with the Sunnis and Kurds and disaffected Sunnis would not have allied themselves with ISIS,Islamic State’s former identity.
There is no victory possible in this war without taking Iran off the board.
The destruction of Islamic State and its affiliated jihadis is going to be more difficult, but again not beyond our capabilities. Again, let’s remember that we are fighting an ideology. To start, were I president, I would insist on a formal declaration of war by Congress. To get that, I would have to make the case of Islamic State and it’s allied militias constituting an imminent security risk to America, and then put forth the clear goal of its defeat and exactly what that would look like.
A Declaration of War clarifies exactly what a war is about, who the enemy is and gives a commander-in-chief certain powers that can come in handy where sedition, espionage and sabotage are concerned. And it puts congress on board in a much more decisive and straight forward way then foggy ‘resolutions.’ It says volumes about President Obama’s arrogance and unsuitability as commander-in-chief that his plans reportedly include not consulting congress at all. But moving in…
After a significant amount of education of the home front and being nationally honest about openly naming our enemies and declaring war, the next step would be securing the home front, including our borders and a crackdown on certain organizations and websites that encourage Islamism and jihadi recruitment. For instance, in a real, declared war CAIR’s campaign urging Muslims not to cooperate with the FBI can legally be labeled treason and dealt with accordingly.
Another important step involves the cooperation of certain bad actors in the region. Both Qatar and Turkey would need to be put on notice that any funding or arming of Islamic State and its allies would have serious consequences, with a genial nod in the general direction of Iran to emphasize the point. Trust me, they would understand.
Europe too would need to understand that cooperation in keeping their home grown jihadis under control and stopping them from going overseas to join Islamic State is a must. According to an ICM poll, support for Islamic State is at 7% in UK and at 16% in France (27% among what we’ll call the cannon fodder years,18 -25). Those are astounding numbers, but considering how these countries have been importing Muslim immigrants for a decade, not entirely unexpected. We would probably be wise not to count on much in the way of help from the EU militarily, but most foreign countries can be coerced into cooperating in choking off jihadi recruits, jihad fundraising and finance by the simple expedient of letting them know that non-cooperation will lead to them being forbidden from doing any transactions with U.S. financial institutions or foreign financial institutions doing business with U.S. firms. It’s the ultimate sanction.
For all the talk about ‘leaving the dollar’ and ‘alternative financial structures’, the financial pulse of the world still flows through New York City, because of the huge American consumer market if nothing else. President George W. Bush used this weapon successfully to bring down several banks who were financing jihad, one of the few thing he did right during his ‘war on terror.’
We might also be surprised to find that Russia and China might be far more cooperative than we expect in taking out Islamic State and other assorted jihadi groups. China is dealing with a vicious jihadi problem among the Uighers in Western China, there have been a number of terrorist incidents and the Chinese people themselves are very aware of this menace. Russia has been fighting Muslims for 4 centuries, still has the Chechens to deal with and a growing demographics problem with the native Russian population shrinking due to low birthrates while Russia’s Muslim birthrate continues to grow. Even the Russian Army has experienced a number of incidents involving violent riots and fighting between Muslim and native Russian soldiers. Whatever else you might think of him, Vladimir Putin is no fool.
The military campaign against the Islamic State itself would be a joint effort, most likely in conjunction with Israel, the Saudis, the GCE countries and Egypt. The destruction of Iran would have a decided effect on the demeanor both our friends and our enemies, and cooperation would probably be much more cohesive than after that. While I doubt we could expect much from Europe, Canada and Australia would likely send their forces in to help, and they’d be a very welcome and effective addition as anyone who served with them in Iraq or AfPak knows.
Let’s look at what we’d be up against.
The Islamic State currently has something like 3 divisions worth of fighters according to the best estimates, something between 15,000 and 20,000 fighters. They’re well armed, experienced and motivated fighters, with ManPads for use against helicopters, armor of both the Russian and American varieties and plenty of ammo and supplies thanks to the meltdown of the Iraqi Army and their recent victories in Syria.
They lack one major, vital component. Pilots. Islamic State has taken over several air bases, so they have planes and platforms…but they have no pilots. And Islamic State lacks to the topography to wage the sort of war the North Vietnamese did. There’s no place to hide.
Modern war in the desert is fought over large, open and mostly flat topography. It depends on two components, armor and air power being used in conjunction. Armor and infantry without air cover is a recipe for disaster, as every modern army who has tried to fight that way in the Middle East could tell you.
The Saudis alone have something like 300 F-15s, more than enough to defend themselves and decimate an offensive by Islamic State if it comes to that.
So the Islamic State would more than likely attempt to wage war with these strategies: tying up our forces with guerrilla warfare and terrorism while using their domestic supporters in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere as well as on the home front to increase terrorism and sedition is almost a given. They might also end up reinforcing strong points in their territory the way Hamas did with Gaza City, figuring that the West would not be willing to inflict casualties if they use human shields. Needless to say, any garrison cities are going to have to be destroyed, with little regard for human shields or collateral damage if this last tactic is to be successfully defeated.
And finally, they may open up new fronts.Lebanon, for instance, where the Lebanese army and the Shi’ite forces of Hezbollah integrated with the Lebanese Army suffered a serious defeat on the Syrian border.
These boundaries change according to the fortunes of war, but The Islamic state currently controls something like 57,000 square miles (90,000 square kilometers) roughly the size of Jordan. Their territory includes big swaths of north and northeast Syria including include pieces of major cities like Aleppo and Raqqa, while in Iraq, the Islamic State’s new caliphate stretches from the northern and northwestern parts of country to Fallujah,Mosul and just west of Kirkuk.
Their revenues are estimated at between $1 and $4 million per day. Most of the money either comes from donors or from criminal enterprises – selling stolen oil on the black market, ‘taxes’ and protection money in the areas where the Islamic State rules, carjackings, bank robberies, kidnappings for ransom, and the sale of narcotics and of sex slaves.
Because Islamic State is a quasi national body, the only place to wage war on them economically is by attempting to crack down on donors and suspect banks. But the Islamic State probably also utilizes the time honored hawala system, where money brokers transfer funds for a small commission using what amounts to an honor system, avoiding banks and promissory notes entirely.
The key to defeating The Islamic State is going to involve destroying its capacity to make war, not ‘containment.’ And a successful war against The Islamic State likely involves internalizing the lessons of Union General William Tecumseh Sherman.
A man ahead of his time in many ways, General Sherman realized that the path to victory was not only in defeating the Confederate Army in the field but in destroying the Confederacy’s material ability and psychological will to wage war.
His strategy involved moving his armies through the Southern heartland by using his superior numbers and firepower to consistently outflank and force back Confederate troops under General Joe Johnston and later General John Bell Hood…and destroying anything the enemy could possibly use. His army killed comparatively few civilians, but lived off the land and left a swathe of destruction in its path.
He refused to allow his army to be tied down occupying bases. After conquering Atlanta, the South’s primary railroad and communications hub, he simply had the population evacuate to the Confederate lines, destroyed the railroads, ammunition and stores Hood’s army had left behind along with anything else his own troops couldn’t use (including a large part of the city itself) and continued to move east to Savannah on the Atlantic coast and then north through the Carolinas, using the same tactics. According to Johnston’s own memoirs, Sherman’s troops moved at the rate of something like a dozen miles a day, leaving virtually nothing that could be used by the Confederate armies behind them. This also forced the local populations to concentrate on survival and subsistence rather than providing either men, food or materials in support ‘for the Cause.’ It is a fact that there was very little if any guerrilla warfare behind Sherman’s lines in the conquered territory.
Sherman eventually forced Johnston’s army to make a stand in North Carolina at the Battle of Bentonville, where he decisively defeated Johnston’s troops, and eventually took the surrender of Johnston and all the remaining confederate forces in Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas on April 26, 1865, the largest surrender of Confederate troops during the war.
The lesson of General Sherman is an important one. Whether we want to admit it to ourselves or not, The Islamic State has a lot more popular support in the Muslim world ( including Muslims in the West) than we realize. That mistake has to be brought home to them, and the sooner it is, the shorter the war will be, ultimately saving many lives.
With modern adaptations, (for instance, using air power supporting armor to force Islamic State’s forces back) General Sherman’s strategy would both destroy The Islamic State’s capacity to wage war, bankrupt it by eliminating the finance and support it gets from its base and discrediting its ideology among the people it most needs to be discredited with – Muslims. It would end their psychological support for jihad, because the jihadist forces would be defeated and discredited in plain sight of the population.
In contrast to WWI, Germany in WWII suffered total and unmistakable defeat. Germans were able to see first hand the destruction and death that following National Socialism and Hitler had brought upon them. The lesson was brought home and thus the German people had the ability to rebuild and start with something like a clean slate.
There is one final thing we are going to need in order to win this war, and it’s unfortunately something deeply lacking – leadership.
That’s a problem the best strategy and armies available can’t solve. President Barack Obama will almost certainly take none of the steps I’ve outlined above. Among other things, he sees Iran as an ally, a strategic partner. Even never Chamberlain never saw Hitler that way, and Chamberlain at least had a piece of paper with Hitler’s signature on it. President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry don’t even have that much from Rouheni or the Ayatollah Khamenei.
Moreover, this president has downsized our military severely and forced skilled and battle hardened generals like David Petraeus, Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin, formerly of Delta Force, Stanley A. McChrystal, Carter Ham, Army Maj. Gen. Patrick Brady, and Marine General James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis among others into early retirement. Just a casual look at these men’s records will tell you how big a loss that is.
How ever it falls, we will eventually be forced to fight the War on Jihad. Whether we fight it at a time of our choosing or of our enemy’s is an open question at this point. But there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s coming.
What I’ve presented here is how I see us winning it.

No, unfortunately, it wasn’t Sheik Nasrallah..but it was a nice target all the same.
Hassan al-Laqis was gunned down near his house in Beirut as he was coming home from work last night, according to Hezbollah. And by the way, notice the Hezbollah flag on the police tape at the crime scene, a warning that Hezbollah controls the crime scene and is vetting who enters and who doesn’t.
Now there’s no telling what that ‘work’ consisted of, but Laqis was formerly one of the main commanders of Hezbollah’s rockets division in charge of firing missiles at Israel which caused major damage during the the 2006 Second Lebanon War …and he had since been promoted The Lebanese media claims that Israel tried to assassinate him during the war and failed, which is worth about what you’d think it’s worth.
Hezbollah, of course, is blaming Israel for the hit, and the Israelis are of course denying it.
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor denied that Israel was involved, the Associated Press reported.
“Israel has nothing to do with this incident,” Palmor said. “These automatic accusations are an innate reflex with Hezbollah. They don’t need evidence, they don’t need facts, they just blame anything on Israel.”
Now far be it from me to contradict the Israeli Foreign ministry, but the Lebanese papers are reporting that al-Laquis took five shots in the head and neck according to Lebanon’s Daily Star. With an assault rifle, while he was sitting in his car in the parking lot. At midnight. Now, that’s pretty good shooting, calling for a highly trained operative capable of getting off that many shots (and head shots no less) in a matter of seconds, which is pretty much how the IDF and Mossad train them…but that in itself doesn’t prove anything. On the other hand, the word is that al-Laquis was left alive and died in a local hospital, which definitely doesn’t sound like IDF or Mossad procedure in these kind of operations.
According to the Daily Star a group of Sunni Jihadis know as the “Free Sunni Brigades in Baalbek” claimed responsibility for the hit.
Sunni groups also claimed responsibility for blowing up the Iranian embassy in Beirut a few weeks ago, a delicious irony considering the support Iran gives to Islamic terrorism…including their proxy Hezbollah. In any event, al-Laquis is taking the dirt nap, and one only hopes the bullets were coated in pork fat when they entered his body.
Good riddance, and congrats to whomever took out the garbage.

It’s a Saturday, and so you decide to head down to the local shopping mall, maybe check out the latest computer gadgets, perhaps grab some lunch at the food court, maybe even a movie. You’ve been there before. It’s air conditioned, and it gets you out of the house, so it’s a pleasant outing with the wife and kids if you’re a family man.
Except this day isn’t going to be like the others. Today, you picked the wrong place at the wrong time. Today, you’re going to have a collision with the Religion of Peace, and it just might be your last day on earth.
Islamist terrorists from Somalia’s al-Shabaab targeted the crowded Westgate Premier Shopping Mall in Nairobi,Kenya at noon in a brutal assault with bombs, automatic weapons and grenades that left 68 dead and over 205 wounded at last count. This is still an ongoing hostage situation. and some of the injured were critically wounded, so it’s uncertain just what the final death toll will be yet. Some of the dead reportedly were from Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s own family.
As is usual in these attacks, the killers showed no mercy for children, the elderly, or women. They were waging jihad, and the maximum body count of infidels was all that was important. In fact, the attack took place during the filming of a children’s cooking show under a parking lot canopy, something that ensured a number of casualties among the children and their parents watching the filming.
The al-Qaeda franchise took credit for the attack on its official Twitter feed: “Only Kuffar were singled out for this attack. All Muslims inside #Westgate were escorted out by the Mujahideen before beginning the attack,” Al-Shabaab tweeted.
This confirms what a number of survivors told Kenyan security forces, that the killers asked the Muslims they encountered to identify themselves and escorted them to safety as they opened fire on the ‘kuffars’ – non-Muslims.
In one reported case, an Indian man who attempted to escape by claiming to be a Muslim was executed in cold blood when he was unable to name Mohammed’s mother.
“They asked people ‘Are you a Muslim?’ and anyone who answered ‘no’ got a bullet,” Moshe Noiman, an Israeli living in Nairobi who witnessed the attack, told Israel’s Channel 10 news.
The Israeli coverage is no accident. The Mossad and Israeli commandos are reportedly aiding the Kenyans, and while Israel and Kenya have close relations, it goes beyond that. The mall is partly owned by Israelis and some of the hostages are said to be Israelis.
An unnamed Kenyan security source told the AFP that Israeli forces had joined Kenyan efforts to end the deadly siege. “The Israelis have just entered and they are rescuing the hostages and the injured.”
Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Paul Hirschson refused to confirm or deny that its forces were involved, which is typical in these situations.
But in the end, none of it matters.
Beslan, Mumbai, Netanya, London, Boston, Bali, Ft. Hood, Itamar, Darfur, Madrid, and now Nairobi again. And so many others. They all blur into one, because over the last decade or so, we have, as a society, normalized terrorism in the name of Islam.
Same old same old.
Muslims murder non-Muslims horrifically because of whatever grievance they feel like claiming this time. One time it’s an innocent remark about a beauty contest, another time it’s some cartoons, or anger over girls going to school. Sometimes it’s simply because non-Muslims have the temerity to live and prosper on ‘Muslim’ land. Many times, it’s simply old fashioned theft, rapine and pillage against non-believers.
The perpetrators might call themselves Boko Haram, or Hamas, or Islamic Jihad, or Abu Sayeff or Al Nusrah, Lashkar e Taiba, or any of the other groups actively waging jihad.
The details don’t matter. The scenario is always the same. Non-Muslims are butchered in the name of Allah.Western politicians, or more often these days spokespeople issue the usual, carefully phrased condemnations. Sometimes, the perpetrators are caught and killed, many times they’re not. Nothing changes. On to the next atrocity. Cycle, rinse, repeat.
Have you ever wondered why this macabre dance continues?
Here’s one clue.
IIf you take a look at the official statement on Nairobi by a State Department spokes person, you’ll notice something. It condemns a ‘despicable terrorist attack’, offers condolences to Americans and others whom were ‘tragically affected’, commends Kenyan security forces and promises undefined ‘support’. At the every bottom, almost as an afterthought, it mentions al-Shabaab, not as a mortal enemy, but as a ‘threat’.
What’s missing here?
Here’s clue number two, a tweet posted by British PM David Cameron:“It’s been done in the name of terror, not religion.”
Ah, and also from the UK, courtesy of Zombie, who writes on how the BBC, once the gold standard in journalism is now willing to break the rules of Journalism 101 with a misleading headline (“Nairobi Westgate Shooting Kills 11 In Kenya”) the opening lede, which refers to ’11 people who died in a gun battle (which directly implies there was a ‘shoot-out’ between equal combatants) and a subsequent paragraph which refers to “armed criminals” rather than terrorists attacking helpless civilians.
Al-Shabaab is finally mentioned in passing in the lower paragraphs ( the part of the story a great deal of research tells us the vast majority of readers skip over) but like the statement coming from our State Department, no real mention of whom they might be or what might have been the motivation for the attack.
So, what do we have in common here? A frantic, almost manic attempt to avoid even hinting, let alone mentioning one word in any form: I S L A M.
The victims in Nairobi (‘people affected by the attacks?’ what unfeeling arrogance!) were murdered in the name of Islam by Muslims. And yes, is has everything to do with religion. Why else do you think only non-Muslims were targeted?
That’s the missing piece here, and the refusal of our elites to face up to it is not only why it keeps happening, but why we’ve been encouraged as a society to normalize it.
Hey, sometimes trainwrecks happen, car crashes occur, or a building collapses. Sometimes terrorists hit for some reason. Just part of the risks involved with daily life. Workplace violence, like Fort Hood. The Lottery of Life. Stuff happens. Isn’t that a shame. Just suck it up and be glad it wasn’t you this time.
Heaven forbid anyone should ever delve into the motivation for every one of these attacks.
But walk with me awhile and let’s take a look at this from a jihadi’s view point.
Islam is the only major religion that promises Paradise as a heavenly reward for murdering kufars, infidels, non-believers. It says so directly in the Qur’an and the Hadiths, in numerous places.
Many Muslims don’t follow these parts of their religion, but a substantial number do. So from the standpoint of a Muslim who believes what’s stated in his or her religious scriptures and who has been indoctrinated that this is the way, the truth and the light, where’s the downside in murdering non-believers, who the Qur’an says are Hell bound anyway? If you do it successfully and survive, you’re a hero and nothing really bad is going to happen to you. Even if you’re incarcerated, the humane West will see to it that you have top quality halal food, comfortable accommodations and in most cases an early release date, and you will be thought of as a hero. In fact, if you’re lucky enough to be part of Hamas or the PLO, you’ll even get paid a salary far beyond what you could earn outside jail courtesy of gullible Western donors and receive a hero’s welcome when you’re eventually kicked loose as a ‘good faith gesture for peace’.
And if you die? You become an instant shaheed, a martyr, with a promised reward of 72 nubile young women to use and abuse as your sex slaves throughout eternity as a reward.
Major Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood killer who murdered 13 defenseless Army personnel understood this perfectly. He started by admitting to the murders in his opening statement, after he successfully demanded the right to represent himself at his trial. His defense consisted of calling three witnesses to get them to state on record that he was indeed the murderer of 13 people, including a pregnant private who lay wounded on the floor and pleaded with Hasan for her baby’s life before he finished her off.
The judge, Colonel Tara Osborn obviously followed orders from higher up when she disallowed any evidence that pointed towards jihad or Islamism as Major Hasan’s motive for the murders, the same thing that’s been done with all of the other jihad attacks Islamic fascists have inflicted on the West. She actually tried to help Hasan by suggesting that the murders were the result of a sudden spontaneous flash of rage. But Major Hasan wanted his jihad as a Soldier of Allah and would have none of that:
“It wasn’t done under the heat of sudden passion,” Hasan said before jurors began deliberating. “There was adequate provocation — that these were deploying soldiers that were going to engage in an illegal war.”
Not only that, but the evidence clearly showed that Hasan made thorough preparations for the killings, even going to the extent of putting paper towels in the pockets of his cargo pants to muffle the rattling of the extra ammo he was carrying to avoid arousing suspicion.
From Nidal Hasan’s viewpoint, it’s all good. He murdered a bunch of infidels, performed a successful jihad and is headed for a painless death via drug cocktail, followed by a traditional Muslim funeral like Osama bin-Laden’s (which involves cursing non-believers) and a gala reception by Allah as an honored shaheed. Even his assets, over $300,000 in accumulated pay and benefits was donated to a charity, we’re told, rather than being subject to civil recovery by the surviving victims or their families. And of course, we’re not allowed to know which charity.
The jihadis who have murdered infidels from Boston, to London, to Mumbai, and now Nairobi see it exactly the same way, as a winning proposition. And that’s been reinforced every time one of these attacks occur, because the non-Muslim world has refused to even condemn the ideology that drives this religiously sanctified murder, let alone punish the perpetrators or the societies that aid and abet it in any meaningful way, even in Muslim communities in the West.Is it any wonder it continues? Or that young Muslims want to emulate the Nidal Hasans? Do you think that might perhaps change if he were hung publicly with a piece of bacon shoved into his mouth and then simply dumped into the sea without Muslim rites? After all, we’re being constantly told these attacks have nothing to do with Islam. so why not? And might things change if there were a price tag for aiding and abetting Islamic fascism, if the ideology itself was actually identified, targeted and attacked, especially in western countries? Might we see changes in Muslim countries that aid, finance and abet this ideology if there was a direct cost involved?
Instead, our elites have decided out of fear, political expediency or sheer personal financial gain to present Islamic terrorism as just one of those hazards of everyday life, something unpleasant that just happens and has to be expected sometimes, like a flood or a bad thunderstorm. Talk about blood for oil…
So the jihad against the West is going to continue. This time, it was Nairobi’s turn. Tomorrow, it could be New York, or Zurich, or London or Nigeria. Or your town, your loved ones. It will continue because we allow it to continue, because we continue to live a lie.
Until we decide that enough is enough.

Melanie Phillips is one of my favorite writers, a sometime correspondent of mine and a woman of rare courage. She originally wrote for the UK’s Leftist bible, the Guardian, but 9/11, the London tube bombings, the Islamist influx into the UK and the Left’s appeasement in response to it caused her to strike out on a very different path, which included the superb books Londonistan and The World Turned Upside Down.
Lately, she’s been involved in something of a controversy, and one that says a great deal about what I prefer to call the War on Jihad.
Some of you know that Pam Geller at Atlas Shrugs and Islamic scholar and prodigious author Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch are two effective and outspoken critics of Islamism and sharia.
Recently, they were supposed to go to the UK to speak at a rally of the English Defense League, but were barred from entering the UK by Teresa May, the British Home Secretary.
In response to that Melanie Phillips wrote blog post in which she came out forcefully against this totalitarian proscription of free speech, especially ludicrous in view of them allowing Muslim jihadis like Australian cleric Shady Al-Suleiman into the country.
Not to mention excluding people simply because they have an Israeli stamp on their visa and happen to be Jews.
But then, she went a bit further, writing:
I do not support the approach taken by either Geller or Spencer to the problem of Islamic extremism. Both have endorsed groups such as the EDL and others which at best do not deal with the thuggish elements in their ranks and at worst are truly racist or xenophobic.
The result has been a serious blow to the credibility of these two writers, with particular damage being done to Spencer whose scholarship in itself is scrupulous. It has also split the defence against Islamic extremism, and handed a potent propaganda weapon to those who seek falsely to portray as bigoted extremists all who are engaged in the defence of the west against the Islamic jihad.
Needless to say, both Spencer and Geller angrily attacked her on their sites, and a number of others have denounced her for what they call ‘friendly fire’.
Melanie Phillips is no shrinking violet herself, and responded in kind:
First, you would hardly think from their reaction that I actually opposed – and in the strongest terms – the order banning them from Britain. Furthermore, I spoke of them merely as ‘anti-jihadis’ and gave unambiguous credit to Robert Spencer’s scrupulous scholarship. The only aspect on which I said in this piece that I parted company with them was over their endorsement of
‘groups such as the EDL and others which at best do not deal with the thuggish elements in their ranks and at worst are truly racist or xenophobic.’
I did not call the EDL racist or neo-Nazi. I do, however, believe it contains thuggish elements.
Its leader, ‘Tommy Robinson’, has criminal convictions for assault and football hooliganism.
He is a former member of the unquestionably racist British National Party. Some members of the EDL have been pictured making Nazi salutes at rallies. The EDL exploits the very real threat of jihad, as well as the often violent attacks against its own members, to mask its own demonstrably yobbish behaviour. You can see examples of such behavior, throwing bottles at the police, here or here, where Tommy Robinson decided to go on a bender in Luton and started gratuitously throwing missiles at the police from a distance, boasting he would ‘hit a police officer on the … head’.
It targets mosques indiscriminately for its demonstrations, threatening Muslims regardless of whether they are extremists or not. Robinson has personally threatened:
‘The Islamic community will feel the full force of the EDL if we see any of our citizens killed maimed or hurt’.
I had a few thoughts on this myself, so I thought I’d e-mail her, with what follows below:
We’ve corresponded before and you know I’m a long time fan, but even though Robert and Pam were a bit over the top, I have to agree to disagree with you here.
The EDL has some thuggish elements, even some racist ones..but so does every other institution in the UK. As for Tommy Robinson, yeah, he has a past. But it’s NOTHING compared to the jihadis Britannia has been sleeping with for years.
It’s the EDL that has had the guts to protect and defend pro-Israel demos on the ground throughout the UK – no one else, not even your police. The EDL is a voice that has sprung up because there is effectively no more free speech in the UK, and the EDL is one of the few organized groups willing to fight the powers that be. They’re not out there committing violence against random Muslims, and if Robinson threatened reprisals for violence done to EDL members, he was speaking a language jihadis understand. Remember that he and his family have been subjected to countless death threats.
Robinson has made the point numerous times that he has no problem with peaceful Muslims, but with sharia and jihad. I haven’t seen any evidence to the contrary.
Since the EDL is really the spear point of organized resistance to the Islamization of the UK, has it ever occurred to you that someone with your gifts could make a difference? Broaden their stance a bit?
All Good Things,

She replied to me, and as always with her, it was a friendly, reasoned response. I won’t divulge what she said without her permission since it was a private e-mail between Ms. Phillips, myself, and Obama’s NSA. But generally, I can relate that she stands by what she said, particularly about Tommy Robinson.
She included this link…which is odd in a way. In spite of the film being skewed and bending over backwards to paint Robinson and the EDL as right wing extremists, the film inadvertently reveals very clearly how different the treatment meted out by the police to Robinson and the EDL is as opposed to the license given to jihadis in Britain.
The British government is physically frightened of the jihadis and wish to appease them. The only thing they fear about Robinson and the EDl is the same thing they fear about Pam Geller and Robert Spencer- that by engaging in free speech and exposing the truth about Islamism and sharia, it will spark Muslim violence.
I’d also point out that Sir Winston Churchill made a similar decision about alliances when it came to Stalin in WWII. In fact, Sir Winston said he’d ally with the devil himself if it meant defeating Hitler and the Nazis. That might have worked out better than it ultimately did, too, if FDR had not been a deathly sick man at the time of Yalta whose administration was riddled with Soviet agent and their sympathizers.
I have confidence in Melanie Phillips. I think as I think as things evolve, so will she. In fairness, she probably thinks the same where I’m concerned!
I think I’ll let Pat Caddell have the final word on this:
